Trent Alexander-Arnold might currently be weighing up his future ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season, but two of his team-mates are convinced they know what he’ll do when he retires from football. The Liverpool vice-captain is of interest to Real Madrid and could join the La Liga giants on a Bosman transfer in the summer if he doesn’t agree fresh terms with the Reds.

But both Harry Maguire and Jack Grealish have backed the 26-year-old to be a top manager when he hangs up his boots, after assessing the future coaching credentials of some of their England team-mates.

The pair were asked to tier rank their peers, with Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold leading the way alongside Maguire.

The two defenders were placed in the top ‘S-tier’ as they were earmarked ‘future trophy-winning managers’ for a video on the England YouTube channel.

“I think he’ll be good, very good,” Maguire said when it came to placing Alexander-Arnold.

“Trent, he’s another one who absolutely loves football, he properly studies it,” Grealish concurred. “He’s played under really good managers so I think he’d have good ideas.

“I think Trent would be right up there for me. Another one who is mature for his age.”

Maguire added: “He’d do the passing drills, he’ll be doing the finishing when he’s about 50 years old still, putting it in the top corner.”

Grealish replied: “He’d be wanting players to drop out so he could join in in training!” before Maguire concluded: “He’d be right up there, Trent.”

The Manchester United defender and Manchester City playmaker placed Jude Bellingham and Marc Guehi in the second-place A-tier, while City’s Phil Foden and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer were both ranked F-tier as the two who would make the worst managers/be the least likely to turn to management.
