Huddersfield Town midfielder Herbie Kane says the players need to “take responsibility” for their recent defeats as they look to get back to winning ways.

The Terriers have lost three games in a week, with Town having suffered back-to-back setbacks against Bolton Wanderers, Birmingham City and Northampton Town.

The results leave Michael Duff’s side sitting fifth in the League One table, on 48 points from 28 matches played. The Terriers are 11 points adrift of the automatic promotion places with a game in hand, and four points inside the play-off places.

Kane was left disappointed with his side’s 3-2 defeat at Sixfields on Saturday. He has called on the team to stick together in their bid to get back on track.

“We’ve only got ourselves to blame really. We weren’t good enough, we know that as a team, and we need to make sure we try and put it right,” the midfielder told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I think we’ve got to come together. We’re a together group, and we’ve got to take responsibility ourselves, and make sure we get a reaction from us players.

“We gave ourselves a big challenge, and it wasn’t good enough. We weren’t strong enough in tackles, we weren’t winning first contacts, and against teams like these, we can’t afford to do that.

“It’s easy to play at 3-0 down, you’ve got nothing to lose. You’re 3-0 down, you can chuck whatever at it and try and get something out of it. We’ve got to play like that from 0-0, and show the quality that we do have in the team.

“Fair play to them (the supporters), it didn’t go unnoticed. We couldn’t deliver today, but hopefully we’ll repay that and put on a performance and a result that we all want together.

“It’s difficult, no-one likes losing, but we’ve got strong characters and a togetherness in the team that we’ll reflect on it, and hopefully put it right and turn things around.”
