Hereford Pegasus Ladies hold title contenders Halesowen
HEREFORD Pegasus Ladies secured a hard-earned point from their opening West Midlands Women's Regional League First Division (South) fixture of 2025 after drawing 1-1 with title contenders Halesowen Town at the KGD Stadium.
Pegasus were handed an opportunity to open the scoring in the 31st minute after pouncing on an error in the Halesowen Town defence but player/manager Sam Baker directed her shot wide of the target.
It was the visitors who broke the deadlock five minutes later with a 25-yard drive that flew over Pegasus goalkeeper Katie Wood and underneath the crossbar.
However, the hosts were back on level terms in first-half stoppage-time when captain Scarlett Teague headed home after the Yeltz defence failed to clear a corner from their goal mouth.
Pegasus went close again when Cleo Tomkinson drove into the Halesowen Town penalty area 13 minutes after the break but her ensuing shot was deflected behind for a corner.
Next it was Harriet Adams who latched on to a deep free-kick played into the visitor's penalty area but directed her effort wide of goal whilst under pressure from the advancing goalkeeper.
Pegasus continue to push for a winner and Chloe Wiggill scooped a close-range effort over the crossbar after a 79th minute free-kick was not cleared by the Yeltz defence.
Pegasus substitute Emily Morgan then went close on two occasions in the final 10 minutes to put her team ahead.
However, their opponents could have won the match in stoppage-time when a header was cleared off the line from a corner.
Eventually the two teams had to be content with a share of the spoils on the sounding of the final whistle.
