Hermansen, Faes, McAteer – Leicester City injury update ahead of Aston Villa clash
Mads Hermansen will be sidelined for at least another couple of weeks as Leicester City’s number one continues his recovery from a groin problem.
Hermansen has now missed three matches with the issue he picked up during the 4-0 loss at Newcastle. Initially, it had been expected that he would only be ruled out for a couple of fixtures, but the injury is proving trickier to overcome.
City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is also placing his faith in Jakub Stolarczyk and is happy to stick with the Pole, allowing Hermansen to return to 100 per cent fitness before he plays again. It means Stolarczyk will be in goal against Aston Villa this weekend and likely against QPR in the FA Cup and Crystal Palace in the Premier League too.

“Mads won’t be available,” van Nistelrooy said at his press conference on Thursday. “He’s been assessed over the last week. He’s in his rehab programme. We want him to be well, 100 per cent fit, before he comes back on the pitch. There’s not a clear picture yet of how long it will be, but he’ll be out for a couple of weeks at least.”
Of the seven senior players who were missing for the defeat to Manchester City, at least one, potentially two will return. Jordan Ayew is back from suspension and Wout Faes, having missed the past two fixtures, is closing in on an injury return.
But there will still be handful of players out, alongside Hermansen. Kasey McAteer is not yet fit, but may be for QPR, while Wilfred Ndidi (hamstring), Ricardo Pereira (hamstring) and Abdul Fatawu (knee) are also sidelined.
Van Nistelrooy added: “We’re looking to have Jordan Ayew back after suspension. Wout Faes has been in training individually so far but he will be part of team training from today onwards, so we’ll see how he continues his progress. These two will come into the team hopefully.
“Kasey is doing better. He’s been individually training on the pitch, so far not with the team. Hopefully from the reports he can do partial team training from today. Saturday will be too soon, and then we’re looking to get him in full team training next week and see if he can make QPR.”
