Hermansen, Stolarczyk, Winks, Ndidi – Leicester City injury update ahead of Wolves clash
Mads Hermansen is fighting to be fit to face Wolves this weekend with the Leicester City goalkeeper’s groin problem only minor.
Hermansen was substituted at half-time in last Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing by Newcastle, prompting fears City could lose this season’s best-performing player for a significant period. But thankfully, it is not a serious injury.
City will continue to assess Hermansen and see if he can prove his fitness in time for Sunday’s crunch relegation clash with Wolves. If he doesn’t make it, City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has a choice to make.

Danny Ward was the goalkeeper brought on for Hermansen at St James’ Park, but Jakub Stolarczyk, last season’s deputy, made his long-awaited return from a summer injury for the Under-21s on Monday. While Stolarczyk has not been definitively declared fit for a return to senior action, van Nistelrooy did say he would have a decision to make over the Pole.
Asked about Hermansen, van Nistelrooy said at his press conference on Friday: “That's the question. We're still doing everything we can, and Mads is as well, so he can make it for the game. There's a possibility that he can, so that's good news. It was worrying that he had to leave the pitch at half-time.
“Of course there was an immediate assessment, treatment and rehab over the course of the week so far. We're waiting to see how today and tomorrow goes to see if he can play on Sunday.
“We’ll keep our options open. We’ll see if Mads can make it but if not, we have a decision to make. We have to wait on how training goes.
“Jakub is only recently back from a long injury and has played just one game for the Under-21s. So all that information we'll analyse and make the best decision possible.”
In further good news, Harry Winks has trained all week and returns from a groin injury. He could make his first appearance under van Nistelrooy this weekend, potentially starting alongside Boubakary Soumare, who is back from suspension. The match comes too soon for Wilfred Ndidi, who is yet to return to the grass after his hamstring injury.
Van Nistelrooy added: “Harry was this week fully part of team training. He's available for selection again which is very positive news for the team. Wilfred is in his rehab. He's not on the pitch so he's not available for selection.”
