Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has praised Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap ahead of this afternoon's Super Sunday clash (4.30pm, Sky Sports).

The powerful young Town hitman has been one of the Premier League's breakout stars so far this season, having signed from City for £15m in the summer.

And that outlay looks like incredible business by CEO Mark Ashton and co, with Delap already bagging eight goals and two assists in the top tier.

In his pre-match press conference, Guardiola was asked about the 21-year-old.

He replied: "He’s doing really well.

"Many players came up from this Academy. They are set up perfectly in the Premier League.

"When he was here, always we thought he was a typical striker for the Premier League.

"He’s doing really well and we’re happy for him."

It has been reported that City inserted a buyback clause in the deal that saw Town bring Delap to Suffolk.

Speaking about that previously, boss Kieran McKenna said: "It's not anything I'm aware of or interested in to be honest. I think that's a question for other people and for Mark Ashton.

"My full focus is on this season and, with regards to Liam, trying to help him to continue to improve. I know Liam's full focus is here and trying to help the team."
