Aberdeen's miserable start to 2025 continued as they began February with a 2-0 defeat to Hibs at Easter Road, extending their winless run in the Premiership to 14 games.

Nectarios Triantis bagged a first-half header to leave the Dons in peril before Nicky Cadden's goal shortly after the restart effectively killed the game off for the visitors.

Martin Boyle squandered some big chances to make matters worse for Jimmy Thelin and Co, with the Reds failing to make their moments count in Leith.

The result leaves Aberdeen fourth in the table, with Hibs now sitting fifth and just two points behind and Motherwell four behind ahead of their clash with Celtic on Sunday.

An incredible backing of over 1,800 Aberdeen fans had made the trip to the capital, and despite the woeful form the Red Army were right behind their team from the first whistle.

But it would soon become a cagey start for both sides, with Leighton Clarkson's half-chance easily dealt with by Hibees keeper Jordan Smith in what was the first glimpse of attacking football at Easter Road.

Aberdeen were finding some joy on the left flank, with Pape Gueye looking to create a moment of magic to secure a first-half lead, but the contest was carving up little to get the fans out their seats.

But the Leith faithful would soon be the ones cheering in celebration with Triantis nodding his side in front - yet another game where the Dons would fall behind in the opening 45 minutes.

Hibs were knocking on the door through Martin Boyle and Chris Cadden, piling the pressure on the Dons, but Josh Campbell was left alone to tee up Triantis to nod the ball home.

A well-worked set piece had undone Thelin's men once again, with the hosts' rewarded for their spell of pressure - something Aberdeen needed to conjure up if they were to avoid making it 14 league games without a victory.

Another half-chance came and went for the Reds, with Gueye running to meet a cross from Jeppe Okkels only to fire wide of the goal.

Alfie Dorrington flew along the Easter Road turf with a trio of Reds waiting for the cross, but he could only carve out a ball towards the box on the line with Hibs able to escape the danger comfortably.

The half-time whistle came, and Aberdeen were in peril once again having never won a game this season when conceding first, with Hibs leading after scoring their only attempt on target.

Things quickly turned from bad to worse however, as instead of starting the second-half pushing for an equaliser, the hosts secured a second despite a VAR check.

Masked man Nicky Cadden headed the ball beyond Ross Doohan, despite the keeper getting a hand to the ball, and after a lengthy check for offside on Dwight Gayle's cross the goal was given.

Hibs were looking to get the job done. Last time they met at Easter Road, David Gray's men were 25 points behind Aberdeen, and now just a couple of months later, the gap was reduced to a mere two points.

That accented the Dons' freefall, but there was still time for Thelin's players to turn things around despite having to overcome a two-goal deficit.

Thelin made a triple change on the hour mark in a bid to turn around his side's fortunes, with Peter Ambrose, Jack MacKenzie and Kevin Nisbet replacing Okkels, Nicky Devlin and Topi Keskinen.

Boyle - who ran the show when Hibs downed Aberdeen at Pittodrie, looked to threaten the Dons goal but the defence manage to cut out the cross to the forward.

Rocky Bushiri looked like he had gifted Aberdeen a chance to get back into the game with a push and a handball in the box, but after being called over to the monitor by VAR, Don Roberston opted against awarded a penalty.

Duk replaced Gueye on approach to the final 15 minutes, with time running out for Aberdeen if they were to avoid extending the dire winless run.

Boyle missed a glorious chance to kill off the game and make it 3-0 as he stormed forward looking to dink the ball over Doohan, but the striker fluffed his lines and the keeper denied him a third goal of the season against Aberdeen.

The final change for Aberdeen saw Ante Palaversa replaced by Shayden Morris before Boyle saw a second chance fall apart when he tried to run in behind Doohan but missed the ball into the box.

Nisbet, facing his old club for the third time, fired a close-range effort over the bar after beating his way through the crowded penalty area as the game entered injury time.

Nine minutes had been added on, but in the end Hibs were able to coast to victory in what is another damaging result for Aberdeen - their 10th defeat of the Premiership season.

League action takes a break next weekend with the Dons looking to advance in the Scottish Cup against Dunfermline, and they will now be looking to finally end the drab run of results in the top flight against Dundee in a fortnight.
