Highly-rated Irish youngster Jack Brown joins the Knights
YORK Knights have added highly-rated 17-year-old youngster Jack Brown to their ranks.
Brown has penned a three-year deal with York, and will continue his development whilst on dual registration with Oulton Raiders under-18's, who are based in Leeds.
The prop boasts international experience, having represented Ireland at both under-16 and under-19 level, and was named as Player of the Tournament in the under-16's Four Nations. He also earned a Player of the Match award against Wales for the under-19's international in the Autumn
Brown began his career with Stanningley, but spent the last two years of his development at Normanton Knights.
His international impact earned the attention of Ireland coach and Knights assistant Ged Corcoran, who instigated the move for York by recommending that Mark Applegarth takes a look at the youngster.
Head Coach Applegarth admitted that Brown's ability had caught his eye, saying: "I’m really impressed with Jack. He’s really responding well to the training environment.
"He’s got a really good head on his shoulders which is a credit to his upbringing and his mum and dad.
"Ever since our first meeting I was blown away with how mature he is. I think over the next few years he can be anything he wants to be.
"We first noticed him when Ged Corcoran mentioned him to us as a kid that’s got potential and he’s certainly got that."
Brown added on the move: “It’s a dream come true. I’m over the moon. It’s nice to have the opportunity.”
