Hillians hope for big cup night against Albion - despite losing home advantage
Jay Lovett hopes Burgess Hill can make Culver Road home from home and cause a cup upset.
The Isthmian League south east side take on Albion’s youngsters in the Sussex Transport Senior Cup tonight (7.30pm).
The tie has been switched from Hillians’ Home Call Carpets Community Stadium after previous postponements.
Lovett’s squad includes several former Albion academy players and he is looking forward to a different type of test.
The Hillians boss said: “It has been an exciting season. An eventful one.
“It’s a nice journey with a really good group of lads.
“We are grounded and realistic in terms of what we are doing. We want to enjoy the ride without great expectations.”
Lovett spent five years on the academy coaching staff at Albion.
He said: “I left because I wanted to watch my son play more often – and then he got injured!”
Hillians expects Albion to send out a strong side and be well organised.
Lovett added: “We are set-up well too and it will be good challenge.”
Meanwhile work to repair recent storm damage at their clubhouse has progressed well.
Lovett said: “High winds took felt off the roof but there are some good guys who sponsor the club who have done a great job on that.
“Hopefully it will be fine for our next home match.”
Club chairman Vince Alfieri told supporters: “When I was standing in the clubhouse Wednesday morning I feared the worst.
“However, we forget the clubhouse was installed over 50 years ago with a ten-year shelf life, but has battled through all this time, and has done so again.
“This speedy recovery was made possible by our local community.”
