Hinshelwood adamant that morale remains high for City after Christmas party
ADAM HINSHELWOOD was adamant that morale remains high for York City after a late equaliser at Tamworth.
After Ollie Pearce had powered York ahead with a rocket of a strike in the first-half, Jordan Cullinane-Liburd bundled home Tom Tonks’ long throw-in during stoppage-time.
The late equaliser meant that City had to settle for a disappointing point, adding to a frustrating run of form on the road for the Minstermen, who haven’t won in an away fixture since late October.
Hinshelwood does not have worries about any potential ramifications from the result, and remains certain that morale remains high, especially after the players enjoyed their Christmas party at the weekend.
The York boss reflected: “I think it was a good performance ultimately, it’s a tough place to go.
“When you come that close you always have one eye on the three points, that was our plan going there, to come away with the three points.

“I’m disappointed that didn’t happen, but at the same time, give full credit to the opposition, they have a real weapon there in their throw.
“They use it to their advantage and it’s just the one time we want to galvanise everybody.
“We played so well, it was probably one more long throw to deal with that we couldn’t quite deal with, which is disappointing.
“In the main, it was a good performance it could be a good point if we back it up with three this weekend.
“If you put it into perspective and if it was the other way around and we scored late on, then the mood would have been completely different.
“Ultimately, you still get a point at the end of it.
“The lads are disappointed, I felt that they did enough in the game to get the three points, it didn’t quite materialise for us and we’ve got to now put that sort of pressure on ourselves to come away with three points at home.
“I don’t think there will be any sort of hang up from it, yes we’re disappointed, but it can happen in football and we will learn, try to improve and make sure that we’re better this weekend.
“I didn’t see anyone feeling sorry for themselves because we didn’t quite come away with the result that we perhaps deserved, if anything we need to work harder and improve in training.”
Following the York match, Hinshelwood allowed the players some downtime to celebrate Christmas as a squad, by embarking on the town in fancy dress.
Hinshelwood has opted to avoid looking at any photographs of the players, which included Joe Felix as Super Mario and Dan Batty and Jeff King as members of the Incredibles, and believes that it was an opportunity for the players to come out of their shells and strengthen their relationship.
“Everyone’s all good, they have worked tirelessly up until this point, so it’s only right that they went out,” The boss added.
“It’s a good part of getting togetherness amongst the group as well, we left them to it.
“Everyone came back and trained well in the last two days.
“I don’t want to see any [pictures] to be honest! That’s completely over to the players, we went out as the staff and had a few drinks together and left the players, it’s their sort of time really and they’ve been putting a pot together for fines that they have been getting for lateness and certain things.
“They had a bit of a pool of money together, so they went out and enjoyed it for Christmas.
On Joe Felix as Super Mario, Hinshelwood laughed: “I’ll have to try and see that one!
“He’s a great lad and it’s pass and parcel of it, seeing people out of their comfort zones a little bit and maybe putting on fancy dress will definitely help people come out of their shells a little bit.
“That’s what the Christmas party is all about, I’m just pleased to have everyone back and ready to go.”
