ADAM HINSHELWOOD is excited to see the dynamic of brother vs brother in this afternoon’s battle of the Howe’s between York City and Gainsborough Trinity.

York captain Callum Howe will be involved in an unique situation when City travel to Gainsborough for their FA Trophy fourth round match (3pm), as he will be facing up against Trinity striker and brother Declan Howe.

It’s a situation which Hinshelwood is not used to, admitting that the opposing positions of the two brothers is something he hasn’t seen before, with the boss expecting Callum to want the bragging rights against younger brother Declan.

“I don’t think I recall [a situation like] that,” Hinshelwood laughed.

“I’ve known brothers to play against each other but as centre-half and centre-half or centre-forward and centre-forward.

“To have two who play at centre-back and at forward is very rare, and a unique thing.

“It’s a great occasion for the family and they’ll be looking forward to it, they’ll both be ultra professional and looking to do one over on the day.

“They’ll want the bragging rights for sure.”

With City challenging lower league opposition for a position in the next round of the FA Trophy, Hinshelwood is seeking that his York side avoid any potential banana skin, with complacency not a huge concern for the boss.

Hinshelwood issued his respect for a Gainsborough side that reached as far as the second round in the FA Cup, with the boss also expecting his team to play to their usual strengths, despite the difference in levels.

Hinshelwood continued: “It’s very familiar to myself of being in the other camp, being at a team that is a bit further down in the pyramid and playing teams a bit higher.

“You always relish those occasions and want to showcase yourself, you have an extra point to prove and I know all too well what that is like.

“A lot of the players, there are a few in our ranks as well, that have come from that kind of level so we’ll have no shock that it’s going to be a tough game.

“They’re a good opponent and we’re going to have to treat it like any other league game, be at our best as Biggleswade proved, we had to be at our best that day and the scoreline could have been so much different.

“The upmost respect will be given and we can’t go there for one minute and assume it’s going to be an easy game.

“It’ll be a tough game, they’ve got good players and we fully respect what they have done already to opposition above our level.

“We’ve got to match their intensity, first and foremost, and then hopefully try to implement our style of play and see where that takes us.

“There definitely won’t be any sort of complacency in terms of our point of view and the messages."

Should Saturday’s match end all square, the tie will be decided by a penalty shootout.

Hinshelwood explained the process in deciding who takes the penalties for City, as well as the preparation in which his goalkeepers will take.

“We do a little bit of practice after training but nothing more than that really.

“A lot of it is about the mindset on the day and the designated penalty takers will be whoever is feeling confident and whoever can take that kind of pressure on the day.

“I’ve always done it that way, I’ve been on the end of a few wins and a few losses so either way, I don’t put too much thought into the players’ mindset.

“Hopefully Callum can give us some indication on one player for them!

“Other than that, it’s going to be them [the goalkeeper] just left to their own attributes, so I don’t think there will be too many water bottles with loads of different kickers on it, the same for us as well.

“If it gets to that stage, we will have players that might not be used to taking penalties stepping up.”
