Holloway expects upturn in form to help in transfer market
Ian Holloway believes that Swindon Town’s improved performances and results will help them to attract players in the January transfer window.
Following the departure of Jamie Russell in November, Holloway is in charge of Town’s transfer activity and, along with his network and the club’s staff, has been hard at work to identify targets who can make a difference in the Swindon squad.
He has said that he is looking for “at minimum two” new players during January to improve the squad, although admitted that finding the experienced players he wanted would be a challenge.
With Swindon fighting against relegation to the National League this season, this transfer window, which is already a notoriously difficult month to do business in, becomes even more tricky as players might be hesitant to play for a club which could experience a relegation.
However, Holloway said ahead of the game against Notts County that the club’s improved form should be helping them to improve their chances at getting players to join them.
He said: “There are some things that I am trying to do and whether I can do them or not, I don’t know, I really don’t know.
“It is not the best window in the world to do things in but at least we have had a pick-up in results which might encourage someone to want to come to us.
“If we hadn’t won for a long time then that would have been terrible but I can confidently say to people that we have got a good group, we are doing well, and we are working hard.
“It is like a jigsaw puzzle and right now it is impossible to say what is going to happen.”
Another factor which could influence incomings during this window is Town’s ability to move players out, which Holloway has said he is keen to do.
The former Blackpool manager would prefer a smaller squad to work with and gave an update on where he was with potentially looking to sell players.
He said: “I won’t be trying to get people out, it will be some decisions of whether I need somebody and will they play for me and then I would have to have a conversation with them.
“At the end of the day, the more we are winning, the more we are not losing then the better chance the people in my dressing room have got to stay with me.”
