Ian Holloway said that he is continuing to evaluate the two players who are on trial with Swindon Town with a view to potential signings.

Swindon are progressing with their plans for the January window, having already brought in Tom Nichols on loan from Mansfield Town to add a different dimension up front.

Holloway has been clear that he is searching for different skill sets during this window and as part of that has taken two unnamed players on trial to get a closer look at them see how they fit in with his group.

With results on the pitch improving, Holloway said that he did not want to disrupt his current squad by bringing in players he was not certain would make a positive impact.

It was revealed last week that one of those two players had been linked with another side in League Two during this window but Swindon are able to make a move for either were their trials to be successful.

Ahead of Swindon’s Vertu Trophy round-of-16 tie against Birmingham City, Holloway gave an update on the situation with those two trialists and also whether he would be bringing in any more this month.

He said: “[Are the two trialists still with the group now?] Yes.

“[Are we likely to see any movement with them?] The plan is for them to show me that I like what they can bring to the group, how they act with the group, and if their skillsets are high enough to help us get out of where we are.

“[Does them still being here show that is still possible?] It is still possible.

“[Are any more going to come in?] One is due to come in on Thursday.”

Holloway was very tight-lipped about transfers ahead of the game against the League One leaders, just saying that there was “nothing else to report” on that front.

The former Blackpool manager was very pleased to bring in Nichols as the 31-year-old provides the experience he is looking to add to his squad but he has previously said that he would like to bring in two such players this month to give him a veteran spine to give him both flexibility in team selection and also players who can help the others to thrive.

He has also said that he is looking to add a winger in the transfer market to help create more chances for the strikers and switch up formations when necessary.
