Ian Holloway said that Swindon Town's 2-1 victory over Newport County was the perfect way to start the biggest week of his life.

Swindon fell behind in the first half when Kyle Hudlin was the quickest to respond after a parried shot but Harry Smith quickly got Town back level.

Then with time ticking on, Joe Westley came off the bench to make his EFL debut and snaffled up his opportunity hungrily to get a massive three points at Rodney Parade.

Holloway was full of praise for all of his players in how they went about earning his first away league victory since taking charge.

He said: "I am delighted because it was a tough game and they played well but we matched.

"They went in front but I thought that we started really well and then what a reply, the lads don't like going behind any more.

"I am challenging them to see what we can do in the most important week of my life so far.

"I think that this week could change everything that we are hoping for but we have got to earn that right and that was a fantastic performance today. I was really pleased with everybody.

"What an atmosphere, their fans were singing but at the end it wad our fans who were singing and that is what counts."

Holloway discussed how Swindon were able to overcome their energetic hosts and push even further away from the relegation zone.

He said: "The team structure helped us, they played well and it was a difficult situation for us as they didn't do what we wanted and they had some new players in.

"That always makes it a bit difficult but the lads sussed it out and I tried to change something which I thought could help us have a bit more control but that didn't work.

"Just before half time I switched it back and then at half time I switched it again to what I thought would help and we looked so much better.

"On the bench, I know that I have got people who can come on and make a big difference and with the number of subs that you are allowed it is always a bit hectic."

Westley made an immediate impact having joined from Burnley yesterday on loan and Holloway was made up for the young striker.

He said: "I am delighted for the new lad to come on and score us the winner, I couldn't have written it better for him.

"I am really pleased with everybody at the club, especially the fans with how many there were here tonight and that is a big win for us tonight.

"I think that is 17 in 19 he has got this year and he is prolific, so I want him to come here and do what he wants to do and play off the back of defenders and learn that he can do it at a higher level, and he showed that."
