Nico Gonzalez wants to bring intensity and goals to the Manchester City team in words that will surely go down well with supporters.

Gonzalez completed a £50m move from Porto to the Blues in the final hours of deadline day. City had been reluctant to pay that much for him, but after a 5-1 mauling at the Emirates on Sunday they dug deeper into their pockets to get a fifth signing of the January window over the line and complete a £180m spend.

City will hope that Gonzalez can make an instant impression on a midfield that has been far too easy to play through all season. Rodri has been sorely missed, but so too has the defensive solidity behind him to protect the goalkeeper.

And after his transfer to City was completed, Gonzalez has opened up on what he feels he can bring to Pep Guardiola's side.

“I think this season I have started to arrive more into the area to score and assist many goals. I think I have also improved a lot in my intensity and I hope this will help me in the Premier League," he said.

"I was raised in La Masia and since I was small, I always played a similar game and style to what Manchester City plays. Also, in Portugal I also tried to improve my play and the tempo of games which has made me a complete footballer.

"I hope the fans see a player that can play with the ball but also attack.”
