'We are hoping it's soon': Reading boss addresses fresh Paul Taylor takeover talk
Reading boss Noel Hunt has admitted that he is unaware of any progress on a much-needed club takeover amid talk of a buyout by property tycoon Paul Taylor.
The Royals have been up for sale for over 12 months and came close to being brought by American Rob Couhig, but the former Wycombe Wanderers chief is now taking Dai Yongge and the club through the courts for breaching exclusivity and loss of earnings.
However, news broke in the Sun on Saturday that Taylor- 'a bricklayer turned banker and financier from South London'- is leading a purchase attempt as we speak.
In Reading's latest statement, they confirmed talks remain ongoing with an unnamed party.
Following Saturday's 0-0 draw with Charlton Athletic, Hunt was asked about any off-field progress but was unable to offer anything concrete.
"I’ve kept our heads down and said to the guys that there will be news when there is news," the former striker-turned-manager said. "We are hoping it is soon, and fingers crossed we get some good news heading into the New Year.
"10 points from 12 in the last nine days is outstanding from the lads and it just shows how close and strong we are as a group. Anyone looking to come and get involved, look at the group. It’s important that we keep everyone together because it’s a special group and we can do things with this group."
With the January transfer window open, there are fears that player sales will be made to fund the club over the short-term. However, Hunt and Head of Recruitment Brian Carey are pushing hard to ensure the impact is minimal as fifth-place Reading continue to challenge for promotion heading into 2025.
