CHERIE D'AM can win the rerouted Dragonbet Towton Novices’ Chase (GBB Race) (1.15pm) at the newly-rearranged fixture at Ffos Las on Saturday afternoon – if the meeting passes a 7.30am precautionary inspection.

With the National Hunt meetings at Kempton, Wetherby and Warwick’s Classic Chase day fixtures all cancelled a new card at the Welsh track was quickly put on meaning there will at least be some action over the jumps. Heavy rain, snow and the big freeze have put paid to so many meeting over the past week or so, it was great that the BHA could at least get the new meeting in Wales on. And in the Grade Two feature race – the Towton Novices’ Chase normally run at Wetherby – Dan Skelton-trained Cherie d’Am can triumph.

The seven-year-old was a decent hurdler last season, winning at Wetherby and Aintree before finishing third in Grade One Sefton Novices’ Hurdle at last season’s Randox Grand National Festival at Aintree Racecourse. Sent chasing she won for the first time over the bigger obstacles when landing a Listed race over 2m4f at Warwick last month. She improved on a third-placed finish in a three-runner contest on her debut over fences at Carlisle in October. Cherie d’Am jumped particularly well the last day at Warwick and kept on to score by seven lengths from Telepatique, who had been unbeaten in two runs before that.

With that experience, the progressive mare can take the step up into Grade Two company and make it two from three over fences in the Towton. Cherie d’Am’s main danger is the Ben Pauling-trained Handstands, who bounced back from falling on his chasing debut at Wincanton to score in the Grade Two Betfair Esher Novices’ Chase at Sandown last month. The six-year-old should go well but the drop back down from three miles to 2m4f for Handstands mean the speedier Cherie d’Am should come out on top.

Skelton’s BEAT BOX is on fine run of form and can make it eight wins from his last nine starts in the Download the Dragonbet App Handicap Chase (3.31pm). His only defeat in those was at Hexham in October and having arguably looked the most impressive on his recent win at Kelso last month, he can make light of a 5lb penalty to score again.

It could be a good day for the Skeltons at Ffos Las and it’s easy to see why the trainer praised the racing authorities for getting the new meeting on. Skelton may land the finale, the Dragonbet Real People, Real Bookmakers Open National Hunt Flat Race (Category 1 Elimination) (GBB Race) (4.01pm) – and bring up a hat-trick of wins on the day – with GIANTSGRAVE. The five-year-old –who was second in a point-to-point at Dromahane when trained by Sam Curling – can make a winning debut Under Rules now in the care of the Skeltons.

Mel Rowley’s course and distance winner MAHLAND can build on his return to action when seventh at Bangor last month to score again in the Dragonbet The Independent Bookmaker Handicap Hurdle (2.58pm). The seven-year-old won over course and distance on his final start of last season in April and with the cobwebs blown off with his recent outing at Bangor, the gelded son of Mahler can score again in Wales.

Kayley Woollacott’s consistent OUR DYLAN can land a fourth success from his last eight starts with victory in the DragonBet Still Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Hurdle (Division One) (1.51pm). The nine-year-old won for third time in his past six runs – he was also placed in the other three – when scoring well over 2m2½f at Exeter last month. Our Dylan is up 7lb for that success to his highest handicap mark. But he is in such good form and with 5lb claimer Joshua Newman offsetting the rise he can score again.

Trainer Woollacott may also triumph with DIAMATISTE in the DragonBet Still Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Hurdle (Division Two) (2.25pm). The six-year-old is yet to win in six starts over obstacles since joining Woollacott in December 2023. But judged on his half-length second to Martalite at Exeter last month, Diamatiste may finally get his head in front.

Debutant JOHNNY'S JURY can win the DragonBet Born From The Betting Ring Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (12.42pm). Nicky Henderson’s five-year-old looks to have been found a winnable contest for his first start for the Seven Barrows handler.

Evan Williams’ course and distance winner JUBY BALL can take the opener, the DragonBet Supporting British Racing Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (12.12pm), on his seasonal return.

On the all-weather at the new meeting at Chelmsford City a chance is taken on BILLY MILL bouncing back at big odds in the bet365 Handicap (2.40pm). Rod Millman’s seven-year-old won three times in 12 starts last year but has been out of form on the all-weather tracks recently. He disappointed at Southwell last week when 11th of 12, but he has slipped down the handicap and is just 2lb higher than his last win at Ascot in July and also similar successes over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford at the start of last year.

Phil McEntee’s BOBBY ON THE BEAT has won over both course and distance in the past and may be able to land Division Two of the bet365 Classified Stakes (4.27pm). The seven-year-old has not won since scoring at Lingfield in April 2023 but has slipped markedly in the handicap. Bobby On The Beat hinted at a potential return to form when sixth in a six-furlong contest at Lingfield last month. In a similar event here he may be able to return to winning ways.

Others who can win at Chelmsford are Ian Williams’ HALIPHON in the Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap (1.30pm); the John Butler-trained WINDSOR PASS in the It’s Never Ordinary At bet365 Handicap (2.10pm); McEntee’s GLOBAL EFFORT in Division One of the bet365 Classified Stakes (3.52pm); and BLIND BEGGAR – from the Mick Appleby stable – in the Bet Boost At bet365 Handicap (3.15pm).

At Wolverhampton on Saturday evening the Kevin Philippart De Foy-trained MANARA can bring up a hat-trick of wins in the Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Handicap (6.30pm).
