ELDORADO ALLEN can roll back the years to win the Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase (2024 Veterans’ Chase Series Final) (3pm) at Sandown Park on Saturday afternoon.

Joe Tizzard’s 11-year-old has not won for almost three years but can land the extended three-mile contest at the Esher track. Eldorado Allen was a smart novice chaser and mixed it at Grade One and Grade Two level with some success. He hasn’t won since scoring in the Grade Two Denman Chase at Newbury in February 2022 but he beat Grade One performers in Royale Pagaille – a dual winner of the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park – and dual King George VI Chase scorer Clan Des Obeaux – on that first try at a three-mile trip. He was the third to Allaho dropped back to 2m5f for the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival afterwards and although he only has four wins from 25 chase starts he rarely runs a bad race.

He is yet to win over these longer trips but he has run well in two starts in veteran chases so far this season, hinting he can get his head back in front. Following a wind operation and long break after he finished 20th in the Randox Grand National at Aintree Racecourse, Eldorado Allen was second on his seasonal return in a qualifier for this final at Warwick in November. He was third stepped back to 2m4f at Cheltenham last time – a trip that is probably on the short side these days. He is now down to a mark of 149 and Eldorado Allen can benefit from that handicap rating and beat stable-mate Copperhead who was one place in front of him at Cheltenham last time.

HONKY TONK HIGHWAY can win the finale, the Free Bet With Unibets Betbuilder Rebound Handicap Hurdle (Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Qualifier) (3.35pm). Dan Skelton’s six-year-old won on her second start over obstacles over course and distance last month and can make it two wins from three this season. The Milan mare was second over 2m3f at Warwick on her debut but dropped back down the minimum distance, she made all to score by a length from Hartington at Sandown and can do something similar over this two miles having also been entered earlier in the week in the 2m4f Listed feature on the card.

DAMEOFTHECOTWOLDS can land that Listed contest, the Try Unibet’s New Smartview Racecards Mares’ Hurdle (Fillies’ & Mares’ Listed) (GBB Race) (2.25pm). Nigel Twiston-Davies’ five-year-old has won three of her five starts over obstacles this season as well as being runner-up in the other two at Worcester in September and Chepstow in October. Dameofthecotswolds is on a hat-trick at present after scoring comfortably in a 2m5f Novices’ event at Ludlow at the end of October before a similar success over 2m3½f at Doncaster in November. This is a tougher contest and in softer conditions, but Dameofthecotswolds looks to progressing very well and she can take both in her stride to bring up a treble of triumphs before potentially stepping up into graded company at the spring festivals.

The in-form ROCCOVANGO can win again in the Read Nicky Henderson’s Weekly Unibet Blog Handicap Chase (GBB Race) (1.50pm). Since joining the Olly Murphy stable at the start of last year and being fitted with cheekpieces the nine-year-old has been particularly impressive. He has won four of his six starts and was second in the other two. He won on his chasing debut over 2m4f at Worcester in October and having been second over the same distance at Warwick, Roccovango scored again stepped up to three miles at Uttoxeter last time. Back down to 2m4f and being in such good form, Roccovango is taken to triumph again.

DODDIETHEGREAT can bounce back from being pulled up at Kempton over Christmas to win in the Try Unibets New Acca Boosts Seniors’ Handicap Hurdle (1.15pm). Nicky Henderson’s nine-year-old was pulled up after the first having been spooked by a rival veering badly at the start forcing him to be slowly away and being well behind his rivals. He had had one run over fences before that but Henderson has returned Doddiethegreat to the smaller obstacles. He is 2lb below his last winning mark over hurdles and may be able to take advantage to score for a first time since winning at Ascot in November 2023.

Stable-mate KHRISMA can win the opener, the Watch Unibet Racing Post Postcast Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (12.05pm). A Grade Three bumper winner in France in 2023, the five-year-old will be making her debut for Seven Barrows handler Henderson following a break. And she can make it a winning one.

Dan Skelton’s BEAT BOX is another horse on fine run of form and can make it eight wins form his last nine starts in the Unibet More Extra Places Than Ever Handicap Chase (12.40pm). His only defeat in those was at Hexham in October and having arguably looked the most impressive on his recent win at Kelso last Sunday, he can make light of a 5lb penalty to score again.

At Wincanton Kayley Woollacott’s consistent OUR DYLAN – a winner at Exeter last month – can land a fourth success from his last eight starts with victory in the Read Nico De Boinvilles Unibet Blog Handicap Chase (Challenger Staying Chase Series Qualifier)(2.05pm).

Gary and Josh Moore’s AUTHENTIC LEGACY can grab a first win of the season following three encouraging efforts in defeat in the Wincanton Handicap Hurdle (3.15pm).

Emma Lavelle’s RED ROOKIE can land a first win over fences since March 2023 in the Unibet Middle Distance Veterans’ Handicap Chase (Unibet Middle Distance Veterans’ Chase Qualifier) (2.40pm).

Others who can triumph at Wincanton are Paul Nicholls-trained duo JUST A ROSE and MISS ALTEA BLUE in the Redlych Race Of Unrivalled Horsepower Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (12.23pm) and the Reco Fastrac To Glory Race Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Herring Queen Series Qualifier) (GBB Race) (12.58pm) respectively; Venetia Williams’ recent Taunton scorer IN D'OR in the Bet #20 Get #20 With Unibet Handicap Hurdle (1.33pm); and ILLOGICAL LOGIC – from the Christian Williams’ stable – in the Join Racing TV Now Novices’ Handicap Chase (3.50pm).

Newcastle's jumps meeting was abandoned due to a frozen track but on the all-weather at Wolverhampton on Saturday night the Dean Ivory-trained MOLLY VALENTINE, a winner over course and distance recently, can land back-to-back successes in the 30 In Free Bets With BetUK Handicap (8.20pm).

On Sunday at Plumpton David Bridgwater's DOM OF MARY can win the BetGoodwin Sussex National Handicap Chase (2.40pm) for a second successive season.
