Gossip: Tottenham 'to snatch Mahrez from Arsenal', Inter 'to snatch Keita from Liverpool', Everton 'want Reid'
Riyad Mahrez must have thought his life would change forever when he won the Premier League title and Player of the Year award in the same season in 2015/16. He sat back that summer and waited for the world to come to him – multi-million pound transfers to Barcelona, trophies, fame, supermodels, the lot.
But actually, hardly anything has changed at all. He’s still at Leicester, he’s back in mid-table, Barcelona aren’t interested and even most supermodels don’t know who he is. He’s back to square one.
So this summer, he’s making sure he gets out of Leicestershire. Forget Barcelona, he’ll go anywhere. Even Tottenham. The Sun reports that Spurs are making a cheeky late bid to snatch the Algerian winger from under the noses of Arsenal.

Roma have already made two offers for Mahrez but they are not willing to meet Leicester’s asking price of £50m, while the Gunners are still waiting to see if Thomas Lemar will join them.
This could reportedly allow Mauricio Pochettino – who insisted last week that he does actually intend to buy some players this summer – to “sneak in” and offer the Foxes star the Champions League football he craves.
Talking of sneaking in, the Mirror claims that Inter Milan are set to rival Liverpool for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, who the Reds have spent every day for two months trying to buy. The Italians have just been chilling out watching them fail, and are allegedly set to pursue Keita for a knockdown fee next summer instead.
The Mirror also contains a very weird story about a Bollywood film star called Esha Gupta “dropping a huge hint” that Arsenal will sign another player in this transfer window in an “Instagram Live gaffe” in a Gunners marketing video.
“We are signing another player and I’m sure the boss is going to do well this time,” is what she said, without naming anyone specific. Currently the most read story on the Mirror’s website, that one. Odd.
Everton will accept £35m for unsettled midfielder Ross Barkley (Mail), who wants to join Tottenham although he will have to accept a lower wage from Spurs than the Toffees have offered him to stay at Goodison Park because Daniel Levy doesn’t want to break his precious wage structure (Mirror).
Elsewhere, the free-spending Toffees are pondering a £9m bid for West Ham defender Winston Reid (Mail), Paris Saint-Germain are so confident of landing Neymar that they are already discussing cool ways to unveil his signing (ESPN) and Arsenal have sent club doctors to see Alexis Sanchez after the Chilean claimed to be “sick” two days before he was due to report for pre-season training (Mirror). He’ll be taking a very hot bath just before they arrive.
