Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Van Dijk 'snubs Arsenal for Chelsea', Liverpool 'want Isco to replace Coutinho', Man Utd 'want Schmeichel Jr'

Transfer targets: Romelu Lukaku and Tiemoue Bakayoko
Transfer targets: Romelu Lukaku and Tiemoue Bakayoko

Virgil van Dijk is a man who can do whatever he wants. He’s talented, he’s tall, he’s got a helluva stylish ponytail and all the clubs in the Premier League want to buy him. All of them. So it will probably come as little surprise that he has decided not to join Arsenal.

The Sun reports that the Gunners have offered to make the 6ft 4in Dutchman one of their highest paid players but, unfortunately for them, Chelsea are prepared to do the same.

Van Dijk is said to “prefer a move to Stamford Bridge”, while Southampton would also prefer him to move to Stamford Bridge because the Blues have cunningly thrown highly rated Danish centre-half Andreas Christensen into the deal as a makeweight.

Chelsea are also favourites to nab some other popular transfer targets, such as Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, who the Mirror says “has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge” despite rival interest from Bayern Munich, Juventus and both Manchester clubs.

Meanwhile, in-demand Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has fuelled speculation of a move to west London after being spotted “chatting with” Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo after the Blues’ 3-0 win at Goodison Park at the weekend. The Times reports that the pair were seen “in deep discussion” and that they “parted with an embrace”. Not that this means Lukaku is necessarily signing for Chelsea; they could just be lovers.

Flying into a rage

The good news for Liverpool is that the Star has tipped them to sign in-form Real Madrid playmaker Isco, but the bad news is that the Star has also tipped them to lose in-form playmaker Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly “resigned” to losing his Brazilian star this summer and wants Isco to replace him. The problem is that the 25-year-old Spaniard has finally nailed down a regular place at the Bernabeu in recent weeks, so it seems unlikely he’d want to swap that for Divock Origi.

Wilfried Zaha’s proposed move to Tottenham could be scuppered by the Crystal Palace winger’s decision to play for Ivory Coast instead of England, says the Telegraph. Not because of mindless jingoism, but because Spurs would rather not spend millions on players who disappear to the African Cup of Nations every two years.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are willing to “listen to offers” for Mesut Ozil but, rather embarrassingly, Turkish side Fenerbahce are the only side who have shown an interest in signing him (Telegraph). Equally embarrassingly, the German is said to have kicked a door after “flying into a rage” following the Gunners’ defeat in the north London derby (Mirror). If only he had flown into some tackles instead.

Elsewhere, Manchester United are targeting Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel as a replacement for David de Gea but face competition from Manchester City (Sky Sports), West Brom are set to launch an ambitious £25m bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho (Express) and West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is set to “hold talks” with striker Andy Carroll “about his injury record” (Standard). Slaven: “You keep getting injured Andy, it’s really annoying.” Andy: “Yeah, sorry.”
