Huddersfield Town head coach Michael Duff has called on his side to have the “right positive mindset and mentality” for tomorrow evening’s clash against Shrewsbury Town.

The fifth-placed Terriers take on the third-from-bottom Shrews away from home in a 7.45pm kick-off, with Town tasked with backing up their Yorkshire derby victory over Barnsley with another positive result.

Town face a side who are four points inside the relegation zone with 15 games of their League One campaign remaining, but with the Terriers having recently suffered a disappointing defeat at 19th-placed Northampton Town, Duff is eager not to see a repeat.

“It’s going to be a tough game. People take a deep breath and go ‘it’s Shrewsbury Town’, they don’t know the level very well, they don’t know Gareth Ainsworth very well,” Duff said.

“We played Reading last week and drew 0-0, they played Reading afterwards and probably should’ve won the game. They started the game really, really well against Bolton on Saturday, could’ve been two or three up after half an hour. I know they ended up losing the game, but we need to go there with the right positive mindset and mentality.

“If it is physical, or whatever they throw at us, we need to be able to deal with it, better than what we did against Northampton for example.

“That was the frustration of Northampton, they wanted it more than us, it can’t happen. Why are three points more important to them than us? They’re not. Whether we’re fighting for something different to them, it’s three points.

“They’re hard to come by, no-one comes along in football and gives you three points – very rarely – so we need to give a 90-minute performance, because the players have shown that they can do it, and it’s getting them to do it more consistently.”

Providing team news for tomorrow's encounter, Duff said: “Injury wise we think we’re alright (following the Barnsley game). Brodie (Spencer) is obviously suspended, so that’s another body down.

“We’re low on numbers, but we have been for a long time. We’ll definitely have 11 players, so whatever 11 we pick will hopefully go down there, give a good account of themselves and win a game.

“Nigel (Lonwijk) is the next one back, he might have a chance for the weekend of some involvement, but we’ll have the group that we had on Saturday minus Brodie (for tomorrow night), that’s literally everyone that’s available.”
