Huddersfield Town are closing in on their third signing of the January transfer window. Speaking after Bolton Wanderers' EFL Trophy win at Lincoln City, Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt confirmed the club had accepted an offer from the Terriers for striker Dion Charles.

The Northern Ireland international, who is currently third choice at Wanderers behind Aaron Collins and John McAtee, did not travel with the team to Lincoln. A reported fee of £750,000 plus bonuses has been agreed between the two League One clubs, with Charles expected to join Town later this week.

Evatt said: “The one thing we have always tried to do here as a collective, myself and the board – and it’s always a subjective industry – but we have tried to do right by the club, financially.

“We had an offer for Dion and that’s as much as I can say at the moment. We have all had input into it. And that is what we do at this football club, we stick together, and there are a lot of decision makers in there, and Dion Charles is one of them too, we mustn’t forget that.

“We came together and decided it as an acceptable offer. We 100 per cent need to sign a replacement and as I have said all along there will be ins and outs in this transfer window and I want to freshen the squad up. We will continue to look to do that.”

The centre-forward, who joined the club from Accrington Stanley in 2022, has bagged 57 goals in 149 appearances for Wanderers. The 29-year-old has top-scored in each of the past two seasons with 20-plus goals, helping Evatt's team secure back-to-back play-off finishes. Charles has notched eight times in 29 outings across all competitions this term.

“You can't turn down good money just because it's from a club in our division,” admitted Evatt. “We have to make sure what we do, we feel, is right for this football club, long-term, short-term, financially, for the team and that's what we've done.

“This gives us scope to do more. And, look, Dion has been brilliant for us and we thank him for everything that he's done.”

It has been a productive window for the Terriers, who are currently fourth in League One. They have already recruited wing back Ruben Roosken and Joe Taylor from Heracles Alemlo and Luton Town respectively.
