Huddersfield Town forward Kieran Phillips has joined Ross County for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old departs the Terriers following two stints in Town’s youth system, with the striker going on to make 11 first-team appearances for the club.

Phillips initially left Town for Everton’s academy in 2013, before returning to the Terriers in 2020. The forward went on to have loan spells with Walsall, Exeter City, Morecambe, Shrewsbury Town and Sacramento Republic, with the striker netting 15 goals in 31 appearances for the latter club last year.

The 24-year-old joins a side that sit ninth in the Scottish Premiership, with Phillips penning a two-and-a-half year deal with his new club.

Town’s sporting director Mark Cartwright told his club’s website: “Having benefited from his time playing regularly with Sacramento Republic, it was clear to us that Kieran was no longer suited to our B team programme and his future would be best suited elsewhere, with first-team opportunities at the club to be limited.

“A capable forward with lots to like about his game, this is the right time in Kieran’s career to find a permanent home for himself at first-team level with his 25th birthday fast approaching, and he departs with the sincere best wishes of all at the club.”

Upon joining his new team, Phillips told his club’s website: “I’m really delighted. A long drive up this morning, but I can’t wait to get going. It’s going to be very different (to his loan spell at Sacramento Republic). I think it’s obviously polar opposites in terms of weather, pitches and maybe playing style, but I’m excited to get back into European football, and hopefully I can carry on my good form into this league.

“I think every loan has its different opportunities, and you learn different things along the way, and they all piece together to make you the player you are today. Hopefully I took a little bit from everywhere, and I’m a better player for it.”

Ross County manager Don Cowie also told his club’s website: “We are delighted to sign Kieran. We identified him in the summer but had to be patient while he was on loan at Sacramento. He had a fantastic spell there scoring a lot of goals.

“Kieran is a different profile to our current forwards and we all look forward to working with him.”
