Huddersfield Town boss Michael Duff believes his squad is “starting to look strong again” on the injury front as player availability continues to show signs of improvement.

The Terriers are set to welcome back Lasse Sorensen into the squad for Saturday's clash at home to Bolton Wanderers, with the wing-back having been sidelined for around six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Sorensen's return to fitness leaves the Terriers without five injured players for this weekend's encounter, with David Kasumu, Nigel Lonwijk, Tom Iorpenda, Mickel Miller and Danny Ward currently sidelined.

Duff said: “I think Lasse can have some involvement in the game. He’s probably unlikely to start, just based on the amount of time that he’s been out.

“Obviously we got minutes into Rads (Radinio Balker) last week, got minutes into Rhys Healey, so we haven’t actually got that many out now.

“You’ve got your long-termer in terms of Wardy, then you’ve got Kas and Nigel, they’re a bit of time away, but it’s not like at one point, we get a team list of the squad every morning in a morning meeting, and there was more red than there was green, that’s not the case anymore.

“It’s just getting people fitter and fitter. Obviously Lee Nicholls came back into it last week as well, so hopefully – I said this a few weeks ago and we got a spate of injuries – we’re starting to look strong again.”

Expanding on Kasumu and Lonwijk’s injuries, he added: “It’s weeks rather than months. David will be closer than Nigel. They’re both hamstring injuries, but just the type of where it was, there was a bit of tendon involved with Nigel.

“I think you’re probably looking at a couple of weeks for Kas, and maybe three or four for Nigel, and then you’ve got your long-termers, in terms of Mickel and Wardy.”

The Terriers have welcomed several players back into their ranks over recent weeks, particularly in the middle of the park, with Joe Hodge, Jonathan Hogg and Antony Evans having all returned from setbacks in the past month.

The additional competition for places is providing Duff with food for thought regarding his team selection, who added: “That’s a conversation to be had now (whether to switch up the midfield).

“For three months we had three midfielders to pick from, and they were brilliant, and they got us through it, in terms of Kas, Herbie (Kane) and Wilesy (Ben Wiles).

“On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, the intensity in training’s ramped up another level, because they smell it and see it, they know they have to be at it in training.

“It’s easy for me to say at the start, but from the start to the season to now, the levels in training are really, really good. It doesn’t always guarantee you a result, but it does help, and we do have conversations, we watch training back every day.

“I’ve got to go back to the ground now and finalise a team, because we’re already knocking things around, whereas probably a month ago, we didn’t really have an option – it was like ‘well they’re the only ones that are fit, we’re going to play them’, and they were great, because we’ve gone on an unbeaten run.

“Now you’re knocking things around, and you want to make sure you do pick the right team, and lots of factors go into that. It’s not just a case of ‘we won last week – I know we didn’t – so we pick the same team’, you want to be able to [weigh up] pros, cons, potential subs, different scenarios – if we’re 1-0 up, 1-0 down, what do the subs look like?

“All these types of things you’re trying to get right. Whoever we do pick, they know they need to play well to stay in the team.”
