Huddersfield Town boss Michael Duff has confirmed that Danny Ward will miss the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury.

The striker, out of contract at the end of the season, sustained the setback in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Burton Albion and is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“Wardy unfortunately has done his cruciate, so that’ll be his season done,” Duff said at this afternoon's press conference. “An innocuous incident, he’s taken a volley like that many, many times, and it doesn’t look great.

"When players go down like that, you watch a lot of football and sometimes they go down theatrically, but you know when it’s a serious one. Pretty much when they lie on the floor and they put their hand in the air, he knew straight away probably subconsciously. It’s really unfortunate.

“He’s actually with a specialist today with one of the physios, so we’ll support him as best as we can, and we’ll see what that looks like, in terms of surgery dates and things like that. Unfortunately it’s not great news on that front.”

However, January recruit Ruben Roosken is available for tomorrow afternoon’s clash against Rotherham United, with the wing-back’s registration having been finalised in time for him to feature.

“He’s allowed to play,” Duff added. “He’s been with us, but he’s not been allowed to train, and then today he was training on his own, because you’re literally not allowed to pass a ball to another player until your permit comes through.

“He was all excited to come and train, and the session had finished, but he’s available for tomorrow, he’ll be registered, so hopefully we can get him involved as soon as possible.

“It’s probably unlikely that he’ll start, he’s not trained with the players yet, so I think it’s a big ask to throw him into a local derby.”

Duff also said that midfielder Antony Evans has returned to full training, but no other injured players are expected to return tomorrow afternoon.
