Huddersfield Town have major advantage over Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham in promotion fight
Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman insists that Huddersfield Town’s fellow promotion chasers Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham “must be concerned” by the Terriers’ impressive run of form.
Town stretched their unbeaten run in League One to 15 matches with a 1-0 victory at second-placed Wycombe on Tuesday evening, a result that closed the gap to the automatic promotion places to four points, with the Terriers having a game in hand.
Victory against the Chairboys leaves Town on 47 points from 24 matches played, while both Wycombe and Wrexham have registered 51 points from 25 games, with Matt Bloomfield’s side currently occupying the second automatic promotion spot due to having a goal difference that is four better than the Welsh outfit’s.

With Town’s promotion rivals not in action in the league on Saturday owing to it being FA Cup weekend, the Terriers have the chance to reduce the gap to one point, as they take on third-from-bottom Shrewsbury Town next up away from home.
Additionally, with the Terriers having now played both Wycombe and Wrexham away from home, the pair still have to make the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium, with the Terriers hosting the Red Dragons on March 4 and the Chairboys on March 22.
Goodman acknowledged that Town have put themselves in a strong position to make a push for the top two in the second half of the campaign. He told Plejmo.com: “[They’ve] got to play both Wycombe and Wrexham at home, which means they’re very much still in the automatic promotion race.
“Huddersfield have put such a good run together that Wycombe and Wrexham must be concerned. It’s all to play for.”
According to Betfred, Town’s promotion chances have increased to 50 per cent following their victory in midweek. However, the bookmaker currently lists the Terriers as the third favourites to go up, behind leaders Birmingham City and Wycombe.
Betfred’s Robert Ford said: “After Huddersfield Town extended their unbeaten streak in League One to 15 games, not only have they strengthened their own chances of promotion, but have made Birmingham City’s look almost secure.
“Blues now have a 98 per cent chance of promotion, whilst the Terriers’s possibility has grown to 50 per cent, after being 47.6 per cent before [Tuesday’s] game against Wycombe.
“The Chairboys on the other hand have seen their chances fall from 66.7 per cent to 60 per cent after their defeat at [Adams Park].
“Wrexham’s possibility of promotion has also fallen from 50 per cent to 47.6 per cent and are now the fourth favourites for promotion from League One.”
