One of the more bizarre transfer sagas in Hull City's recent history has finally come to an end on deadline day in February, with Yuriel Celi leaving the Tigers without ever playing a game for the English Championship club.

Celi joined City from Carlos A. Mannuci two years ago but never played a single minute for the Tigers and went on loan to Universitario de Deportes and now that move has been made permanent for an undisclosed fee. In recent weeks, Celi then joined Deportivo Garcilaso on loan. The 22-year-old City's career never got going and he leaves for the Peruvian club.

"Yuriel Celi has joined Peruvian side Club Universitario de Deportes on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee," the club said in a statement.

"The one-time Peru international has spent the last two years with Los Cremas since the Tigers purchased him in January 2023 from Carlos A. Mannuci on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

"During his two years at Universitario, the Callao-born midfielder won back-to-back national Peruvian titles in the Primera División and back-to-back Torneo Clausura tournaments, as well as the 2024 Torneo Apertura.

"In total, Celi featured 23 times for Universitario, recording one assist, and scoring his only goal in a 1-0 win over Alianza Atlético Sullana in April 2024.

"Scoring in Universitario's 3-1 pre-season win over Junior de Barranquilla earlier this month, the midfielder has since joined fellow Peru club Deportivo Garcilaso on loan. We would like to wish Yuriel the best of luck in his future career."
