Hull City head coach Ruben Selles adds mystique to transfer deadline day with comment
Hull City head coach Ruben Selles hasn't ruled out making a surprise addition in the final days of the transfer window after opting against signing Southampton defender Charlie Taylor.
City have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window so far, having signed seven players in January to boost the Tigers' hopes of staying in the Championship, with Louie Barry the latest from Aston Villa.
Those new arrivals have helped the Tigers win two of their last three games, including that thumping 3-0 success at Sheffield United last Friday night, which was his most impressive result - and performance - since taking charge last month.

Selles was keen to sign Taylor on loan from the Premier League's bottom side, but have walked away from the deal and will now stick with what they've got, unless something special pops up; the Tigers boss is more than content with the role Sean McLoughlin and Matty Jacob have played in recent weeks, and while it's not his preferred method of attack, both Lewie Coyle and Cody Drameh can fill in on the left side in an emergency.
In the final third of the pitch, City have added depth and quality to their ranks, which was one of Selles' key demands during the winter window, with Joe Gelhardt, Matt Crooks, Nordin Ambrabat, Lincoln, Kyle Joseph and Louie Barry all arriving.
Though City are content with their business so far, the club haven't ruled out making a dramatic deadline day dash, should the right player become available, and given Acun Ilicali's love of the buzz on deadline day, anything is possible.
While much of the focus remains on incoming players, work remains to get players out the door with Anthony Racioppi heading to FC Koln, Chris Bedia to Young Boys in Switzerland and Xavier Simons the subject of firm offers.
"I expect a couple of players to be out of the building," Selles told Hull Live when asked what could be expected before Monday's 11pm deadline. "I think we did our job, and then unless it's something at the last minute that can change the dynamic, it can happen because those 24, 48 hours at the end are sometimes a little bit crazy.
"We have been negotiating and talking, but there has not been any progress," he said of the left-back situation after talks with York-born Taylor went cold.
Selles has made it clear throughout that he would not entertain players who were not fully committed to joining City, and in the case of the left-back, he says he's content with what he's got rather than sign the wrong person just for the sake of it, and risk upsetting the balance, and chemistry in the dressing room.
"Absolutely. The last thing I want is to have a player that is signed just at the last second, and we don't have any information or anything, because that can be critical for the group, I think.
"Sean has done a fantastic job as a left back in that position. Matty has done a really good job when he has played from the bench or in the beginning, and I think we are covered. Fin did a good job as a centre-back. We have good defenders. Charlie Hughes should be able to come back in three weeks.
"So I'm more than happy with what we have got. If we consider that there is some excellent opportunity to make us (the squad) even stronger, then obviously, we will do it, but I think we are OK in that position.
"As far as I know, yes," Selles then said when asked if Burns would be staying for the remainder of the season given the uncertainty around his loan stay from Manchester City.
After losing Carl Rushworth, City are planning to go into the final weeks of the season with Ivor Pandur and Thimothee Lo-Tutala along with Harvey Cartwright and Archie Howard, rather than look to bring in extra cover with Anthony Racioppi expected to join German Bundesliga.2 giants.
"We obviously talk about Anthony (Racioppi); he is the one that has been requested by a couple of clubs to go on loan. That's why we are working (on that). With Carl (Rushworth) out and potentially Anthony out, Thimothee remains a goalkeeper for us, and then we have our three goalkeepers."
Forgotten man Dogukan Sinik, who is not yet back in training, could leave before the Turkish deadline, which runs until February 15, while there remains talk but no concrete offers around Abdus Omur. Last January's arrival could be back involved against Stoke City after missing most of the last month with a knee injury but he is keen to play, and that is unlikely at the moment under Selles.
"Well, I'm still waiting to see him (Sinik) on the training pitch with us, so I can guess that he has some interest in Turkey, but until I have him on the grass, I cannot make an evaluation," the Tigers boss said of Sinik, before going on to talk about Omur.
"I think we will need to evaluate those options as a club and do what is best for the club and for the player," he continued.
"Abdus has been out of the team and has not been training with the team for the last three weeks., I think it is. He needs first to be back on the grass in order for us to make a decision."
