Hull City head coach Ruben Selles says it's important the Tigers do not fall into the trap of rushing through transfers just for the sake of it in the final days of the window.

City have so far signed Matt Crooks, Joe Gelhardt and veteran winger Nordin Amrabat and remain locked in talks with a host of other potential new recruits as owner Acun Ilicali looks to back the Spaniard with players capable of helping the Tigers escape the clutches of the Championship's drop zone.

Twelve months on from the exciting arrivals of Fabio Carvalho, Ryan Giles, Noah Ohio and Anass Zaroury, the Tigers are facing up to the stark reality of being a club mired in a relegation battle at the wrong end of the table, which naturally creates it's own problems in attracting players capable of making a positive difference and ones who fit into a club trying to work within Financial Fair Play parameters.

"For me, the first thing is to be very clear on what I want, and I always say that I think there are a lot of good things already here," Selles said when quizzed by Hull Live on how challenging this window is proving to be. "You just need to put it together. The second thing is to find the profiles and don't make the mistake of getting numbers in.

"I think that's the most important thing because in every other side, when it arrives, especially the second part of the window, and we're still in the situation, you will try to rush things and sometimes even get a player that you don't even see or scout because you just need something there that should not be our style, that's not our style."

Attracting the right players is never an easy task, especially when City face so much competition from rival clubs. But Selles says it's about understanding what a potential new recruit is looking for and, ultimately, whether or not they're up for the challenge, and prepared to put in the graft, having already fired a warning to those not prepared to do those things.

"Then it's about trying to get the players that really want to come in so we know what we are, we know the product that we have in we know the way that we wanna play, we know the way that we want to train and compete," he explained.

"If we sit with a player that we consider a player for us and we see the doubt, then we don't go (ahead and do the deal). Obviously, it's more attractive to go and play now for a team that is in the top part of the table than to come here and fight for the relegation. But you also see the character of some of the targets when you want them, and they prefer to go and sit on the bench in those teams then come here and potentially compete for a line up position."
