Ruben Selles has challenged himself to be brilliant over the next couple of weeks as Hull City prepare for their next Championship assessment at Millwall on January 18.

Before then, City have the small matter of an FA Cup tie against League Two play-off hopefuls Doncaster Rovers at the MKM Stadium on Sunday afternoon. But Selles believes the period on the training pitch over the next two weeks will be crucial as he continues to make his mark at the club a month on from taking over, particularly after such a gruelling festive period.

City head into the new week buoyed by their dramatic late comeback on Saturday to snatch a point in the thrilling Yorkshire derby with Leeds United. The clash saw the resurgent Tigers lead through Abu Kamara's fifth-minute goal only to trail 3-1 in the second half before Joao Pedro rattled in following Illan Meslier's error and then Kamara''s thumping volley in the final minute lifted the roof off the MKM Stadium.

Not only will Selles have time on the training pitch to further implement his ideas on a group still coming to terms with his new, vibrant approach, he'll hope it sees the arrival of at least two new faces in time for Sunday's game against Grant McCann's Rovers with former Middlesbrough midfielder Matt Crooks closing in on a move to the MKM Stadium.

"I think it's massive," Selles told Hull Live. "I think it's going to be the first period that we have a clear week to go and then two clear weeks to get to start the next period.

"It's going to be important, and now is where I need to be brilliant just preparing those training sessions, making everyone understand even better the way that we want to do things and then creating a team that can perform for the second part of the season."
