Ruben Selles hopes his squad will be boosted by three more new arrivals when the Tigers face Sheffield United on Friday night, with Hull City looking to respond to Tuesday's 2-1 home loss to QPR which left them teetering a place above the Championship's drop zone.

Two goals in six second half minutes from in-form Rangers took the game away from City, who failed to make the most of their openings, especially in the first half. Though Joe Gelhardt rattled in a tremendous looping volley in the closing stages, there was to be no dramatic repeat of the fightback against Leeds United in their last home league outing.

Selles felt his side were competitive against Rangers, who made it four wins in a row, but admitted there was a lack of clinical edge in both boxes against one of the Championship's form teams.

Kyle Joseph watched from the stands along with Eliot Matazo and Lincoln Henrique, with the latter two expected to be confirmed in the next 24 hours, with the trio expected to be involved at Bramall Lane.

"I'm not disappointed with the performance of the team," he told Hull Live. "I think the team was competitive, but I'm disappointed in the way that we conceded the two goals and the way that we didn't take our chances when we should.

"I will not call it two steps backwards. We came here with the idea of being the protagonist to impose our game. I think it was an even game against a good opponent, and the difference was in the two ends."

It was another opportunity where City failed to build on a couple of good results, unlike Rangers, who have gone from bottom of the league to the safety of mid-table with a fourth straight win, and just one loss in 13 games, form the Tigers could only dream of.

"Perhaps if we are not making that step because we are not ready yet and we need to continue pushing so that's what we need to try to do," he said of City's inability to put a run together.

"We need to continue just trying to find (momentum) because even though overall it's not a bad performance, we played a competitive game, those fine margins that we discussed sometimes just are not on our side, and we need to persist in what we do just to try to guide those margins for us like in the last game against Millwall.

"When you're in momentum like they are even in a game like today, they find a way to escape into situations like in the corner, and they find a way to put the ball in the net.

"In the situation that they score, it's a situation that we defend with everything, and we should clear that action, but I think we all fight to try to have that momentum. I think they have that momentum right now, and we need to continue fighting to find our momentum."

The result leaves City a place above the drop zone after a defeat for Luton Town, while Derby County were beaten 2-0 at home by Sunderland.

"I don't think it's a big setback," the Spaniard continued. "We tried to win the game, and we made a performance as good as the opponent; they were more clinical than us, and that's the thing: we need to take it. We need to recover tomorrow, prepare for the game on Thursday, and then go on Friday and try to get the three points and be competitive (at Bramall Lane).

"That's what we are, and that is what we're going to do. If we have any extra players like it looks like we will, we will try to make them available for the game and then go again."
