Hull City were 2-1 winners over Swansea City on Saturday to give their fans some much-needed festive cheer, deservedly ending a run of 13 games without victory.

City hit the front just after the half-hour mark when Joao Pedro latched onto Steven Alzate's pass to power in an effort at the near-post, but yet again, they conceded shortly after that goal. Harry Darling heading in from ex-Tiger Josh Tymon's cross.

The Tigers regained the lead in the final ten minutes when Mason Burstow stepped off the bench to curl in a delicious strike, and Ryan Longman almost made it 3-1 but his shot cannoned back off the post, but they saw off late danger to hand Ruben Selles three points in his third game in charge.

Here's how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players at the MKM Stadium in the pre-Christmas clash on Saturday afternoon....

Ivor Pandur: Had almost nothing to do in the first half, bar picking the ball out of his own net. Was good in the second half and his stoppage-time claim was greeted like a goal. 7/10

Ryan Giles: Made his 150th regular Championship start and carved out a wonderful opening for Slater who fluffed it. Had too many men at the back post for the equaliser. A much better display. 7/10

Charlie Hughes: Decent first half display and had a hand in the big chance for Slater, was then blocked off for the equaliser. Headed and kicked most of it in the second half. 7/10

Alfie Jones: Looked a tad rusty on his return to the starting XI, but kept at his task well. Took the captain's armband after Coyle departed late on. Some important clearances late on. 7/10

Lewie Coyle: Decent display in the first period, keen to silence some of the doubters and tried to get up and support in the second before coming off with 20 minutes to go. 7/10

Regan Slater: Missed a gilt-edged chance to opening the scoring from Giles' cross but sliced wide unmarked from six yards. Created a great chance second half but there were no takers. 7/10

Gustavo Puerta: Buzzed around well in the first half and came close to scoring when his volley hit the post. Played really well, probably his best yet for the Tigers. 8/10

Steven Alzate: His best display so far in the first period, and created the opener for Joao Pedro with a clever pass. Showed some nice touches and reading of the game. 7/10

Ryan Longman: On his 50th league start for the Tigers, he showed some promising signs at times, but unfortunately blocked Puerta from scoring City's second. Hit the post just after the second goal. 7/10

Abu Kamara: Struggled to get into the action in the first half and though he got himself into some good areas, lacked any kind of conviction in his end product. 6/10

Joao Pedro: Worked hard in the first period and got himself a goal with a well-taken finish just after the half-hour. Fluffed one second half but was a real threat throughout and worked his nuts off. 8.5/10

Subs:

Xavier Simons (for Alzate 61): Good to have him back on the pitch and he showed a bit of what City have been missing at times. 6/10

Mason Burstow (for Kamara 61): Looked bright, having a header saved and then a shot saved at the second attempt at the near post. Scored a wonderful goal in the final ten minutes to win the game for City. 8/10

Cody Drameh (for Coyle 71): Did what he needed to do really well after coming on in the closing stages. 6/10

Marvin Mehlem (for Puerta 84): Much-needed energy as City looked to hold off the late threat from Swansea. 6/10
