New Hull City recruits watch alongside Acun Ilicali but same problems remain as transfer push continues
Tuesday night's 2-1 home loss to QPR was arguably one of the most frustrating defeats of the season, albeit against a side who had won their three previous games having lost just once in 12 games prior.
Two goals in six disastrous second half minutes took the game away from the hosts, who had no shortage of promising moments, but as they have done all season, were unable to take advantage of them.
City's worrying lack of clinical edge in both boxes has been a consistent them running throughout the season, and it's why they are perched precariously above the drop zone, with Portsmouth a place below them and having two games in hand.

After another forgettable home result for the City's long-suffering supporters and another occasion where the Tigers have been unable to build on a couple of positive results, City reporter Barry Cooper looks back at the night's work...
Same old problems haunt City
The MKM Stadium continues to be anything but a happy hunting ground for City, as the issues that have plagued them for months continue to be an issue.
This was anything but a poor performance, but it was one we've seen played out so many times. There is lots of good stuff in the middle; unfortunately, when it matters, there is lots of not-so-good stuff, and that centres on what happens in both goalmouths.
Football has been and will always be a simple game, one decided by what happens in both boxes. Yet again, City were not good enough in either. Against another fairly average Championship team - and that is meant with no disrespect to QPR whatsoever - this was a game City should never have lost.
Sadly, because of their own deficiences, they did, and because of that, they missed a glorious chance to take advantage of those around them also dropping points. The story of the season summed up yet again.
A watching brief for the new boys
There were no fresh additions to the squad for the QPR game, given Kyle Joseph wasn't signed by the 12pm cut-off on Monday, and both Lincoln Henrique and Eliot Matazo were not done in time. Those three will almost certainly be in the squad for Friday night's Yorkshire derby at Sheffield United, with them watching the game from the comfort of Acun Ilicali's private suite.
Those three will add to the three in the squad at Millwall and further boost Selles' ranks going into the final months of the Championship campaign. Suddenly, from having very few options to turn to, he's not short of them.
And there might even be another one in the door in addition to the ones we know about if they can get the left-back deal over the line, though there are no assurances that will be the case.
Gelhardt's glorious goal
On his 100th career appearance and his full Tigers debut, Joe Gelhardt scored a goal he will not forget in a hurry, and though it meant little in the context of the game as it transpired, his moment of quality was brilliant.
Throughout the game, Gelhardt was keen to try and get involved and showed plenty of promising signs, which should offer him and his manager plenty of encouragement.
To score a lofted volley of that calibre shows there is a quality player in there, and hopefully, he'll get a big confidence boost from it, and can build on it.
Injury latest
As Hull Live revealed ahead of kick-off, Abu Kamara missed the game with a niggle he picked up during training on Monday. That hip issue is not expected to keep him out for any length of time, and he should be fine to be involved at Bramall Lane.
Lewie Coyle is rated as touch-and-go for the derby as he nurses the huge gash he suffered in the first half at Millwall. Knowing the skipper, he'll be doing everything he can to be fit and available on Friday night, even if it means playing with some pain in his right foot.
Having those two back would be welcome, especially given they're still without Kasey Palmer, Charlie Hughes, Liam Millar, Mohamed Belloumi and the suspended Oscar Zambrano. Hughes is back on the grass after his hamstring problem but is still a month away from returning to first team action, according to the man himself,
Attention turns to Friday
The final game of this busy week sees City now face the small matter of a trip to Bramall Lane and the second-best home record in the Championship. In terms of away tests, it is the biggest since Ruben Selles took charge last month, and after two straight away wins, they'll go there in good heart, despite Tuesday's frustrations.
Similar to the game with Leeds United, few outside the Tigers' dressing room will give Selles' side a chance of getting a positive result, but just as they did against the Whites, they'll have the belief they can go to Bramall Lane and get a positive result, and if that did happen, what a boost that would be to their survival hopes.
After three games in the space of lass then a week, Selles' players will be delighted to have another clear week on the training pitch, and a chance to integrate the new players.
