Hull City star's emphatic reprieve after unusual apology post Middlesbrough defeat
Abu Kamara said the moment will stay with him forever as he provided the ultimate comeback in scoring two goals against Leeds United after he had to make an unusual apology following Hull City's loss to Middlesbrough.
In a strange press conference after the defeat to Boro on New Year's Day, the Hull winger apologised to supporters while sat next to new manager Ruben Selles. It came after he faced fierce criticism for his part in allowing Delano Burgzorg to make a late surge into the box before setting up Alex Gilbert for that memorable late Boro winner.
But Kamara was apologising because shortly after the game he took to social media to congratulate former Portsmouth team-mate Paddy Lane, who had scored his first goal in a 4-0 win over Swansea City. Given his comment came so soon after the Boro defeat, and was positive towards a rival in the battle against relegation, it angered many Hull supporters.

After apologising and explaining why he made the post, Kamara was kept in the Tigers side for Saturday's clash with Leeds United. And coming up with the perfect response, he scored twice in a 3-3 draw with promotion favourites Leeds United - the goals being his first in a Hull shirt.
And speaking to Hull Live after the game, Kamara said: "I really appreciate it from everyone. It's been a difficult period for me, so to come off to a standing ovation just made me feel really good. I feel like it was the right decision to do (Friday's press conference) to clear up what my comment meant and also just talk about how I am and how I've been feeling. I wouldn't take any of it back, and I'm glad that I did it.
"I didn't even look too much into the goals that I scored. I was just trying to be in the moment and play the game, but it's a good feeling scoring two goals and I'm just happy to contribute and help the team to get a point. To get two goals on an occasion like this, in a Yorkshire derby, that will never leave me because that's the first time I've scored for this club, and it will stay with me for life."
Speaking ahead of the game as he took the decision to address the social media post that caused such uproar, Kamara had said: "I made a comment on one of my friend's posts on Instagram a couple of days ago. I'd say first of all, it was a mistake, and I probably shouldn't have done that, but I just wanted to express my feelings on how happy I was for him to score his first Championship goal, but it was the wrong timing, and it sparked a bit of an outroar, so I apologise for my actions.
"Yes, I was, to be honest (surprised by the reaction). I was in bed with my missus, and I was seeing a lot of comments. I was just confused as to why I was getting all these messages. I didn't really think much of it, but my agent got in contact with me, saying that it was a big problem, so I just thought I needed to address it and say there was no malicious intent with my comment. It was just a simple message to my friend congratulating him on his first goal in the Champ."
