Young Boys sporting director Steve von Bergen believes Chris Bedia will help the Swiss giants to become more clinical in the top third of the pitch after arriving from Union Berlin via Hull City.

Bedia, who joined City in the summer, managed just three goals in 21 appearances for the Tigers with his final goal coming in Ruben Selles' first game in charge against Watford in early December.

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast forward has linked up with the Bernese outfit on a loan deal until summer 2026 with the club having the option, like City, to make the move permanent, after the Championship club agreed to cut short their agreement.

No stranger to playing in the Swiss Super League, Bedia scored 31 goals in 68 games for Servette, a form which earned him his move to Berlin before heading to the MKM Stadium in a move which failed to hit those heights.

"We are convinced that Chris Bedia's qualities will help us to become more efficient and more effective in attack. It is certainly an advantage that he already knows the league," von Bergen said.

Bedia, meanwhile, admits the chance to play regular football again, in a stadium he knows well, was a big factor in deciding to join Young Boys, ahead of other options on the table.

"I haven't played regularly recently, so I'm even hungrier to get back on the pitch and make my contribution to YB's success," he continued. "In the past, I've always seen how difficult it is for a visiting team to get something in Wankdorf (YB's home stadium). Now I'm looking forward to being able to use YB's home strength.
