Hull City transfer state of play as ambitious Tigers aim for more new arrivals in final week
Just one week remains of the winter window, which, this year, runs into early February, with clubs having until 11pm next Monday night to conclude their business for the final weeks of the season, and in Hull City's case, the most crucial since Acun Ilicali bought the club three years ago.
City have brought in six players in what's been a frantic month so far, with the club trying to give Ruben Selles enough options, especially going forward, to try and get his side out of the mess they've got themselves into this season.
Friday night's thumping 3-0 win at automatic promotion-chasing Sheffield United showed the quality at Selles' disposal when his side turn up and put on a display, with his new arrivals making a big difference in terms of quality, energy and much-needed freshness, and also acted as a positive advertisement for potential new arrivals watching on.

Matt Crooks, Joe Gelhardt, Kyle Joseph, Nordin Amrabat, Lincoln and Eliot Matazo have arrived since the window opened on New Year's Day, and before next Monday night, at least two more are expected.
Signing a left-back and another winger are the two key priorities for Selles, who has charged sporting director Jared Dublin with bringing in the right profiles to boost his squad in key areas.
In an ideal world, City would sign Charlie Taylor from Southampton on loan until the end of the season and Sorba Thomas on a permanent deal from Huddersfield Town via Nantes, and that would be them done for the month. Thomas was yesterday missing from the Nantes squad for their latest game, increasing hope a deal can be done.
Things, however, are rarely straightforward when City are involved, and you cannot rule out late drama going into the final hours. We all know, by his own admission, how much Ilicali enjoys deadline day, so there may be something that could potentially happen.
Louie Barry remains on City's shopping list, with Aston Villa still debating where to send the 21-year-old former Barcelona youngster, but Thomas would be a preferable deal for the club, given it would be a permanent move and Selles is keen to try and bolster his squad with players capable of being at the MKM Stadium for the long-term, and not leave them with a loan conundrum.
Concerns over the loan situation have now eased slightly after Carl Rushworth was recalled by Brighton and Hove Albion, but with Taylor's potential move to the MKM Stadium a loan, that would take their tally to the maximum five Selles can name in the squad, a situation he's keen to steer clear of.
Bringing in goalkeeping cover is unlikely, though it can't be ruled out. Thimothee Lo-Tutala is currently the backup to Ivor Pandur, but has a list of potential suitors having seen a move to Wrexham collapse earlier this month, and is now wanted by Crawley Town. City will only sanction his departure if they can bring in cover. Lo-Tutala hasn't played all season and is desperate to play, but may decide that being backup to Pandur in the Championship is preferable than dropping down to League One or Two.
Elsewhere, there will be further departures before the window closes, following on from the exits of Marvin Mehlem, Will Jarvis, Ryan Giles and Ryan Longman. Xavier Simons is expected to complete a move to Swedish side AIK given his opportunities will become further limited following the arrival of Eliot Matazo.
Chris Bedia has a flurry of interest from clubs across Europe and is understood to be spending time deciding where to go next, though he would like to remain at City, but that's extremely unlikely under Selles, who has told him he can go. The same applies to Anthony Racioppi. It was initially thought he could make a surprise return to the squad following Rushworth's departure, but he remains on the list of expected exits and a loan move away is on the cards, with the option to make it permanent.
Fin Burns' future remains up in the air, with discussions ongoing about whether or not he will stay or return to Manchester City. Selles wants to keep him, and the player himself wants to stay. His recent form has seen City decide against trying to bring in further defensive cover in the middle of the back four, with Charlie Hughes nearing a return towards the end of next month. Part of the attraction of signing Taylor is that he can play centrally if required.
There will likely be other exits with Brandon Fleming expected to return to League Two after his loan move to Doncaster Rovers was cut short earlier this month, while a number of youngsters could be moved on in a bid to get them valuable experience.
What we do know for sure is that City will be a fascinating watch going into the final days of the window, so you cannot rule out a surprise or two.
