Hull FC step up prop search as talks held with released Huddersfield Giants forward
Hull FC have stepped up their search for another middle forward and have held conversations with the representatives of Hugo Salabio. The 24-year-old is looking for more regular first-team opportunities following his release from Huddersfield Giants this Tuesday evening, with the Black and Whites one Super League club to show some interest in the player, who made his international debut for France earlier this year.
Huddersfield have confirmed that Salabio, along with Harvey Livett, have been released from the club by mutual consent. In a statement, the Giants wrote: "The decision has been made to allow both players a better chance at gaining regular first-grade opportunities elsewhere. We would like to also place on record the club’s gratitude for their services during their time at the John Smith’s Stadium and wish them the very best for the future."
And Hull Live understands that Hull FC have enquired about Salabio's services, who has also played for Catalans Dragons, Toulouse Olympique, and Wakefield Trinity. He has 15 Super League appearances to his name to date and will offer the Black and Whites the depth they require in the prop positions, having also featured in the French Championsip for Saint-Esteve XIII Catalan and Pia Donkeys.

It is understood that a deal isn't completed as of yet, but there have been talks regarding a move, with any completion subject to a financial agreement on Hull's part. The club, who have some salary cap space to work with, have been on the lookout for a prop for several weeks, with Hull Live first reporting their desire to make a further addition to their 2025 squad, which to date contains nine new signings.
Both John Cartwright and Richie Myler have since confirmed that is the case, with Hull looking for the right addition. They have scoured Super League clubs on availability but have not found a solution yet.
Meanwhile, Salabio, who stands at 6 feet 4 inches and weighs over 100 kg, could fit the bill for what they are looking for, with the player keen to prove himself in Super League. So far, Hull have Herman Ese'ese, Ligi Sao, Jack Ashworth, Yusuf Aydin, and Brad Fash as senior props, with Will Gardiner and Matty Laidlaw two up-and-coming talents. Oliver Holmes can also double up as a middle, with John Asiata signed as a marquee loose-forward. Elsewhere, Zach Jebson and Nick Staveley can play in the middle, with Jordan Lane also used there several times last season.
