Hull FC are interested in signing Salford Red Devils talent Deon Cross. Rugby League Live understands the Black and Whites have identified the outside back as a player of interest amid Salford Red Devils' ongoing financial issues.

Like many clubs, Hull have been keeping tabs on developments at Salford after they requested to receive a £500,000 advancement of their central funding to secure their short-term financial health. As a result of receiving that, Salford have now been told that they will need to make significant cuts to their spending to the tune of around 40 per cent to secure long-term sustainability.

That process, which involves the Rugby Football League, is set to continue through the festive period and no movement is expected before the turn of the year as discussions with the club continue to take place. Salford remain hopeful of securing investment which would strengthen their position.

However, a number of clubs are ready to make their move and among them is Hull, who have identified Cross as a player they would like to take off Salford's hands. The 28-year-old has established himself as a consistent Super League performer during three seasons with the Reds, scoring 30 tries in 86 games.

Capable of playing wing or centre, Cross made his professional debut for Rochdale and played in the lower leagues for Barrow Raiders and Widnes Vikings before earning his break in Super League with Salford in 2022. He has been a regular under Paul Rowley, missing just two matches in three seasons.

That has been one of the features that have made him a transfer target for the club, with injuries regularly wreaking havoc in recent years. The club has invested heavily in its medical and conditioning department to try and rectify that issue but securing a player with a proven track record on the injury front, as well as a player who has performed consistently, has seen the Black and Whites make enquiries regarding his availability.
