The old adage is that it's never dull in 'Ull. Well, it's certainly never dull at Hull FC, who have parted company with Jordan Abdull and have launched a move for their former half-back Marc Sneyd.

As exclusively reported by Hull Live, Abdull and Hull FC are no more, with the latter paying the former off despite the player, who first left the club in 2018, signing on a three-year deal from the 2025 season. Why? Simply put, the understanding is FC have some concerns regarding Abdull's fitness and ability to be their leading man in the halves week in and week out in what is a key season for the club.

Already in pre-season, FC head coach John Cartwright suggested Abdull may need surgery to address a knee injury. Clearly the club has felt it is in their best interests to part ways now, they have come to an agreement, and that's that.

Above all else, what that shows is the sort of ruthlessness many linked to Hull FC have been crying out for. This is an organisation, led by a new coach in Cartwright, that has been big on improving conduct, fitness, standards, and the general environment, nailing down expectations of players. Cartwright has his expectations, and if a player, in the club's view, falls below them, then the writing is on the wall. This bodes well for the future and sets the standard going forward: if the club has concerns, then they will act on those concerns.

However, Abdull's departure, especially before he's even played a game, also raises a question or two on his recruitment, not that Hull, in a precarious position after a run of poor form and results over the last few years, were ever going to get every decision right. That is the reality of where they currently sit and how they're perceived.

It's a complex cocktail and a battle they have to fight through step by step. But this is certainly one that they will have to cop on the chin and move on from, and they are doing that, with attention now turned to Sneyd, whose name has never been far from the transfer headlines, particularly with Leigh Leopards searching for a half-back.

As reported by Hull Live, the Black and Whites have launched a huge bid for their former half, who steered them to two Challenge Cup wins in 2016 and 2017, but there is a way to go to get the deal over the line. Hull, who have cap space available and the financial scope thanks to Andrew Thirkill and David Hood's ownership, will make a genuine fist of it and leave no stone unturned to try and land Sneyd, but it's far from a done deal just yet. However, Hull will hope their bid is strong enough to convince Sneyd to move back to his former employer, particularly in the wake of Salford's financial difficulties, of which they are expected to be forced to sell players this month.

Hull are well aware of that and have been for a while. They are also confident of landing another current Salford player in Deon Cross and will now hope to follow suit with Sneyd. However, getting a player who is believed to be settled and content to move across the Pennines is no mean feat but would be a significant coup for Hull, especially given his form at Salford over the last three seasons. To do that is some challenge, but one thing this crazy sport of rugby league has shown us over the years is to never say never.
