Hull KR star's disciplinary charge challenged as MRP lands early scrutiny
Willie Peters has expressed frustration with the Match Review Panel after Tom Davies was charged. The Hull KR winger has received a Grade B charge following an incident that Peters thinks could not be avoided.
Rovers' new signing was charged with head contact after a meeting of the minds with York Knights' Oli Field during the Challenge Cup victory, shutting down an attack in the process.
Under the new RFL disciplinary guidelines, Davies has not been banned but has had three points added to his record, meaning he is halfway towards a one-match suspension. Peters, who admitted to having no gripes with Mikey Lewis' charge, believes the decision was harsh.

"I'm not overly convinced with the ruling on it," Peters said. "The Tom Davies one, there are accidents that happen in rugby league. We have to protect the player first, no complaints about that, but the framework in place, if there's a slight accident or slip, head-to-head contact, it's deemed foul play and eventually suspension.
"There was no intent whatsoever; he didn't want that head collision himself. There are going to be accidents in our game, it's a contact sport, at the time there was no penalty and the player got up."
Peters reiterated that he had no issue with intentional foul play being pulled up, pointing out that he felt Lewis was rightly sanctioned.
"There just needs to be common sense around each incident. If there's foul play, you'll get nothing from me. Mikey Lewis, we'll keep that in-house but we accept the points that he got and we move on. But Tom is a totally different situation from me. There's no malice, it's rugby league and it's going to happen."
