Newcastle United have had a quiet window, as top clubs scramble for much-needed reinforcements on January transfer window deadline day - and the pace of movement on incoming transfers has frustrated fans in the Chronicle Live comments section.

Manager Eddie Howe and the club have made no secret of the restrictions that PSR has placed on the Magpies' transfer window, with Howe stating on Friday that he does not expect any major moves until the summer. The moves of both Lloyd Kelly to Juventus, and Miguel Almiron to the MLS' Atlanta United, had given fans hope that there was more room to manoeuvre in the final hours of the window, but it was never likely to be the case.

Newcastle look set to soldier on with their current squad, despite considering a number of deals, and exits have been the story of the club's window. After Saturday's loss to Fulham, Howe said: “There’s nothing we can do. The window will be what it is and results won’t change that."

Despite being up front about their challenges, it hasn't made it any more bearable for fans. Reader Magman55 says: “Shocking, Eddie has been hung out to dry, Joelinton could miss the semi-finals on Wednesday and we have no one better to replace him. What's Silverstone doing, he's responsible is he not for procuring sponsorship to find away around PSR and generate revenue? SJP naming, training kit naming and much more could be done but apart from Sela, Noon, and Adidas, nothing. Spurs have acquired 97 extra sponsors since last season seemingly.

"The fans have done their bit with season tickets, membership, Merchandise. It's time the club gave answers to the fans in more detail. A few more injuries and our season is in tatters.”

Northumberlandlad agrees with the frustration: “Two players sold, 52000 every game, STACK making a fortune, new club shop with record sales, new Adidas sponsorship and we cannot buy anyone, but teams that get 11000 fans can. What is going on?”

Energiser999 writes: “It makes you feel like giving up on United with the restrictions on their spending. Why doesn't the Premier League come out and say they are trying to stop Newcastle being successful?”

Ashy says: “Just tie Eddie's hands behind his back, blindfold him and get him to stand on one leg. Howay NUFC, we are desperate for players but instead we are selling. I thought we had new sponsor deals to help, and allow us to spend something. A few injuries and we are knackered…”

Johnsky5 writes: “So the squad is weaker now than it was at the start of the season. Might as well sell Isak to Arsenal tomorrow.”

Petrus says: “Because of a few minor clubs almost going out of business EVERY club is held to ransom, even those with mega bucks and assets. Owners with money and assets should be allowed to invest it and be responsible for the financial stability of their club.”

Toony writes: “Paul Mitchell said the previous transfer policy was not fit for purpose. We signed our best players during that period. All he has done is sell players and weaken the squad. I think he is not fit for purpose.”

Gazza949 says: “The question is, who is available for the positions we want without overspending? We need to find the form that saw us go on an unbeaten run, otherwise we will end up midtable and out of both cups. Watched Forest yesterday and I like Gibbs-White, could we see Bruno go to get him in? This would make us money and we would have a quicker player.”
