Ian Wright said he "hates" seeing Andy Robertson struggle, as the Liverpool left-back continues to endure a difficult season on an individual level.

Robertson has been a mainstay for the Reds since joining from Hull City in 2017, appearing over 300 times and winning several major trophies with the club. However, his form has dipped this season and much has been made of him turning 30 last year, with many fearing that his sub-par performances could be a sign that he is on the decline.

Speaking on Sky Bet's Stick to Football podcast, Jamie Carragher said that the full-back positions are areas of weakness for the Reds. “Defensively we’re [Liverpool] not great in the full-back areas,” Carragher said. “Trent’s that type of player, we know that. You can get in behind him but he gives you the other stuff. Andy Robertson’s finding it tough at the moment.”

Wright then interjected, saying: “I hate seeing that. Because when you love a player, I hate seeing it.” Carragher responded: "I know. We’ve all been there as players and he’s going through that right now.”

Liverpool is understood to be considering strengthening at left-back during the summer transfer window, with Robertson's understudy, Kostas Tsimikas, also set to turn 30 next year. Arne Slot was rotating Robertson with Tsimikas until the latter picked up an ankle injury in November, and the Scot has made several errors since the beginning of the season, conceding penalties against Southampton and Real Madrid, and being sent off against Fulham.

Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies has been linked ahead of becoming a free agent, but Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez is perhaps a more likely target and will certainly not demand the kind of wages that Davies would be after. Bournemouth signed a new left-back this month, with 19-year-old Julio Soler arriving from Argentinian team Lanus, and while he has not been signed as a direct replacement for Kerkez, Soler's arrival would no doubt smooth over any possible exit for the Liverpool target.
