Former Premier League striker Ian Wright has claimed he is 'excited' for Arne Slot to take over at Liverpool. After nine years in charge of the club for Jürgen Klopp, the Feyenoord boss looks set to become his successor this summer.

It's been a disappointing few weeks for Liverpool having exited both the FA Cup and Europa League while also slipping up in the Premier League title race due to defeats to Crystal Palace and Everton. The Reds' season is all but over, meaning Klopp's reign at Anfield will also be coming to an end in just a few weeks.

Despite the 2023/24 campaign fizzling out, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Slot now looks set to become the latest manager to take charge at Liverpool, with a deal expected to be finalized with Feyenoord.

Speaking ahead of Slot's arrival this summer, former Arsenal man Wright, who likely enjoyed seeing Liverpool drop points in the league to strengthen the Gunners' title-winning chances, claimed he was 'excited' for Slot's arrival this summer. “Trying to bring in that level of manager after Klopp is going to be very difficult to find,” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“I think it’s one of those that it might turn out to be okay. Depending on how he goes in, bigs his chest up when he gets into that dressing room. That’s a job you can’t refuse, I believe as a football manager whenever it comes, you probably aren’t going to refuse it. He was talking about the levels and what he needs to be.

"We saw that with Ten Hag and how it hasn’t worked out for him at Manchester United. I think the way this guy comes in, and I have heard about him coaching. How he loves being out there and the players like what he does.

"Whether that can translate into the Premier League and it can work here. I don’t think that transitional high pressing can (work). You have to have something else to sustain it. This is why we are looking at Ten Hag and the way he plays and it can’t work.

"I think, with this guy, what he has done and going to that club. I am quite excited for them simply because it’s a massive club. I hope that it can work out.”

Liverpool.com says: It's a new era at Liverpool and this will be met with much hope and expectation. As Arsenal found out with Arsène Wenger and Unai Emery, it is not easy following a legendary boss at the club. Liverpool may need patience with Slot when he first arrives.
