Ianis Hagi 'offered' new Rangers contract as Ibrox club talk terms to swerve automatic extension clause
Ianis Hagi has been offered a new contract by Rangers, according to reports.
The Romanian's current Ibrox deal is due to expire at the end of the season. However, as exclusively revealed by MailSport earlier this month, Gers won't be taking up the option to extend that agreement unless Hagi is willing to accept reduced terms. The player has since revealed he is open to hearing what the club have to offer, and now the Heart and Hand podcast claim that there is a deal on the table for the 26-year-old to consider.
It has been quite the comeback for Hagi, who looked to be heading for the exit door in August. After returning from a loan spell with Deportvio Alaves, Philippe Clement claimed that he didn't have the skills required, and therefore a future as a Rangers no 10 and would be likely to leave Glasgow before the end of the summer window.
However, Hagi was determined to stay and fight for his spot and had no intention on leaving. Record Sport reported that a clause in his contract would have triggered a pay bump, which explained his absence from the first team squad. Again however, Hagi was willing to compromise and came to an agreement that saw him return to the fold.
His since emerge as a key part of Clement's team, creating and scoring goals from the no 10 role. And now he could be set to extend his stay in Govan should the package on offer from Rangers be agreeable.
Interested parties will be watching on with interest. Galatasaray remain long term admirers and have reportedly looked into signing Hagi more than once. There is a string emotional connection to the Turkish giants, with Hagi being born in Istanbul and dad Gheorghe still a legend of the club.
