Two junior football teams are preparing for a tour of Rinteln, Kendal's German twin town.

The IBIS Junior Football Club's under-14 and under-16 teams will travel to the continent in August.

As well as playing in a tournament against Rinteln players, they will take part in some cultural activities, including the Altstadtfest.

Steve Ellwood, the under-16 coach, said: "With our under-16 team coming to the end of their junior football, we wanted to do something that brings the curtain down and gives them some great memories.

"I was lucky enough to play in Holland and Belgium as an IBIS Junior and this brought about the idea of travelling into Europe.

"Rinteln was an obvious choice with the towns being twinned, and luckily SC Rinteln are very happy to host us and a mini tournament.

"The under-14 team are joining us on the trip and we hope to form a longer relationship between IBIS FC and SC Rinteln, allowing annual trips in either direction."

To keep costs down, the teams will travel by coach and ferry, and will fundraise for the trip through running or rowing the distance between Kendal and Rinteln at The Good 220 Gym, which is supporting the teams' campaign.

Other fundraising activities will include a bingo night and a Kendal Tour quiz, open to all - tickets will be available soon for these events.

Mike Baldwin, the under-14 coach, said: "This is also a great opportunity for local people and businesses to join us on our fundraising mission - please do get in contact if you are in a position to help us out, either by donating prizes for our raffles or for cash donations, however big or small."
