What Ibrahima Konate did after Liverpool substitution before he even changed out of his kit
Ibrahima Konate only played 45 minutes against Wolves, with Arne Slot choosing to substitute him at half time. In an interesting behind-the-scenes glimpse, the center-back has shown what he did after being taken off.
It was an impressive first half from Liverpool, and Konate played his part as Wolves barely had a sniff. But Slot is an extreme pragmatist when it comes to players on a booking, and for the second game running opted to turn to the bench after an opposition appeal for a second yellow card had fallen on deaf ears (he did the same with Conor Bradley against Everton).
On the whole, the change worked as intended. Liverpool's overall performance took a nosedive in the second period, but that was not the fault of Jarell Quansah, who had come on to replace Konate — indeed, he made a vital intervention late on to keep the lead intact.

Slot was full of praise for Quansah after the game. He also stood by Konate, arguing that the first yellow card was soft, and that producing a booking for the second incident would have been similarly dubious.
However, the seed was planted in Simon Hooper's mind by that point, and Slot did not want his defender having to walk a tightrope throughout the second period. That handed Konate an unexpected 45-minute break. But it was straight back to work for the 25-year-old. Konate posted to his Instagram story showing what comes next when a player is taken off.
Still in his kit, Konate took to a simple gym area, presumably still within the confines of Anfield. He shared a photo of himself doing a squat exercise while holding weights, captioned "second half".
A collective groan from Anfield might have made its way down the tunnel and informed him of Liverpool conceding a goal in the second period. Matheus Cunha, broadly contained by Konate in the first half, showed some wonderful feet before curling the ball beyond Alisson.
But while it would have been a nervy wait for the center-back, Konate's colleagues managed to deliver all three points in his absence. The result restored Liverpool's seven point lead over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.
Slot's preventative measures have ensured that Konate will be available when Liverpool takes on Aston Villa in midweek. A win there would see the Reds stretch their advantage to 10 points, albeit with the game in hand now switching to the Gunners.
Whether Slot himself is present for that game remains to be seen. He could not avoid picking up a red card of his own against Everton, and must respond to an FA charge within the coming days — although any potential touchline ban could be delayed until a later match, with an independent panel required to decide upon a sanction.
