'I'd be certain' – Jamie Carragher's one Liverpool signing that'd put title within reach
Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to sign a versatile left-sided defender – which could help the Reds in their Premier League title charge. Arne Slot’s side have been near flawless in the top flight so far this term, losing just a single game.
However, with their last two league games against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest both drawn, those lurking – specifically Arsenal – have been able to pounce and shorten the gap at the summit to just four points.
Though there is plenty of football to be played, a deep and healthy squad will likely be needed for whoever emerges and claims the trophy. And Carragher, who played over 700 times for the Reds, feels that if the title is to be brought to Merseyside, then a left-sided defender could seal the deal.

The Echo reported that Carragher had previously urged his former employers to bring a defender to Anfield. The likes of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez have already suffered spells on the sidelines this campaign. But now the former centre-half has elaborated on just which position needs to be bolstered.
“I look at Liverpool, and it will be giving Arsenal confidence that defensively, at this moment, they’re not great in the fullback areas,” Carragher stated on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold is that type of player that you can get in behind him. Currently, Andy Robertson is finding it hard. We’ve all been there as players, and he’s going through that right now.
“Liverpool haven’t got a player that every other club has – a left-sided defender who can play centre-back or left-back. Arsenal have got Riccardo Calafiori, Manchester United have got Lisandro Martínez, Chelsea have got Levi Colwill, and Manchester City have got Nathan Aké.
“Even Tottenham have Micky van de Ven. Liverpool need that left-sided defender who can do a bit of both. If Liverpool sign that player in January, I’d be certain that they’d win the league.”
After Tuesday's draw in Nottingham, the Anfield icon’s latest plea – posted to social media platform X – read: “Buy a defender!!!” If the left side is the area singled out, then numerous names have seen themselves linked with a move to Merseyside both in the summer and the current window.
Fulham's Antonee Robinson, Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez and Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies are just a few of the stars who are reportedly on the radar. According to Carragher, the arrival of any competent player to boost such ranks could all but secure a 20th title.
