Paul Merson has weighed in on Liverpool's title chances after key results for the Reds and Arsenal at the weekend, with the pundit admitting he would be shocked if the outcome changed by the end of the season.

Liverpool had one of their most successful weekends of the Premier League season, securing a 2-0 victory over Brentford with two stoppage time goals from Darwin Nunez, while Arsenal faltered against Aston Villa.

Mikel Arteta's team squandered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home with the Gunners having Mikel Merino's late winner chalked off by VAR, leaving them six points behind Liverpool, who also has a game in hand.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Arsenal's draw at the Emirates, Merson expressed that he would be "shocked" if Liverpool didn’t go on to win the Premier League this season, following this weekend’s results.

On the title race, the pundit said: “With Liverpool scoring two goals in injury time and Arsenal doing that, the swing is massive. I’d be shocked if Liverpool didn’t go on to win the title from here.”

Brentford boss Thomas Frank also hailed Liverpool as the best team in the world and says the Reds are a "level above" Arsenal and Manchester City, with the Bees having played each of the three sides recently.

Despite a few recent slip-ups against teams like Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, things are starting to look up for the Reds in 2025.

With Arne Slot's side remaining clear favorites to lift the trophy, the pressure will be on the Reds to deliver, a task made slightly easier by the failure of the clubs around them to keep pace.

Liverpool.com says: The Reds achieved a much needed win against Brentford after dropping points in the last two Premier League fixtures. Pundits are now starting to realize that Slot's side aren't going anywhere in this title race and are looking more likely to win the league.
