Illan Meslier has expressed his delight at Leeds United's 1-0 win at Derby County on Sunday and has stated his pride in the team.

The goalkeeper has come in for criticism at times this season. However, he has kept three clean sheets in a row, taking his tally up to 14 for the season.

Derby failed to really threaten the Leeds goal, with only one shot on target from their four attempts. The 24-year-old did make a brilliant save on the hour mark to keep the scoreline level.

Meslier admitted to LUFC TV that he is happy to see that Leeds have increased their standing at the top of the table.. As well as the team, he singled out goalscorer Brenden Aaronson for praise.

"It was a tough game to be honest,” Meslier stated. “At the end it's a win and a clean sheet and we increase our lead at the top of the table so it's a very good day.

"To be honest it was a little bit frustrating to see all the chances that we missed but at the end the goal came and the most important is the win. I am very happy also for Brenden who scored and very proud of the team."

"We controlled almost 40 minutes of the first half, just one of the crosses could have been a little bit dangerous. But to be honest it's not just not only the defence, it's all the block that is working very well, good pressing, counter press.

"Of course sometimes it's good if I make saves but sometimes you don't make them but you have to be ready to make another one."

The shot-stopper will look to continue his fine form heading into 2025. He will be making his 200th appearance for the club against Blackburn Rovers on New Year's Day.
