Illan Meslier 'unprofessional' blast as Leeds United questions must be asked
Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has been blasted as 'unprofessional' for his costly errors in the 3-3 Championship draw with Hull City. Daniel Farke's side appeared to be cruising to an away win on Saturday, leading 3-1 with goals from Ao Tanaka, Dan James and Joel Piroe putting them on course for three points.
However, Hull were back in it at 3-2 when Meslier palmed a header from a free-kick that appeared to be going over, into the path of Joao Pedro to give the Tigers a lifeline. He was then culpable for failing to deal with a corner which Abu Kamara then tuirned in from a dramatic late equaliser.
Meslier had also been unconvincing for Hull's opener, racing out of his goal but failing to stop Kamara, although the City forward had been played clear through. It's the latest error from the Leeds keeper, who was guilty of a costly mistake at Sunderland which saw the Black Cats steal a late point at the Stadium of Light - and it left former Leeds defender Jon Newsome furious.

“I think it’s unprofessional,” Newsome told BBC Radio Leeds. “Everybody makes mistakes, we get that. We talk about the one at Sunderland. I thought he was unfortunate. You can pick pieces out of it, but he was a little bit unfortunate there.
“But you look at the one today, especially, I really don’t know what’s going through his mind. I think it’s unprofessional. Is it a little bit of arrogance that I can do what I want to do, rather than be playing the game in the way the game should be played.
“The third goal is very similar. Questions need to be asked about that as well. You concede three goals today and the goalkeeper has played a major, huge part in all three of them.
“When you are 3-1 up with ten minutes to go, you don’t overplay, you don’t take chances, you see it off, you get it over the line.”
Farke now has a full week to weigh up any changes before next weekend's FA Cup clash with Harrogate Town at Elland Road. Leeds are back in Championship action against Sheffield Wednesday on home soil on Sunday, January 19.
